Freshman Year Was Everything I Was Expecting And More

What will sophomore year bring?

Freshman Year Was Everything I Was Expecting And More

Like many incoming college freshman I was filled with questions and worries about what was going to happen in the upcoming months. I was worried about silly things like how was using a community bathroom going to work, to very serious things like how was I going to make new friends and start networking all over again. Overall, I am very proud of myself and was able to overcome these obstacles along with several others.

Freshman year has been nothing but a rollercoaster ride, but I wouldn't share this experience at all. One second I felt like I was on top of the world having the time of my life, and then the next I realize how much work had to done by the end of the week. There were many times in which I did not think I was going to be able to make it through these two very long semesters.

A huge aspect of my freshman year was my friend group. Fortunately enough for me I was able to make a pretty large group of friends in the beginning and we are still all so close now. We have done and gone through so many things in such a short amount of time. These people that I call friends are actually more like family than anything. I can only imagine what we will be doing in the next few years.

Another factor that really made my freshman year such a memorable time was due to all of the different groups and organizations that I was able to be a part of. Luckily, I was able to join groups like the Student Activities Board, Residents Hall Association, Pre-Professionals Club, and the Hands Helping Paws Club. I was able to meet a whole group of very nice people who had the same interests as I did.

I learned very quickly that college was all about being able to get out of your dorm room and socialize. Without meeting new people and making new connections I could only imagine how difficult college could be. Not only was I able to find people to spend time with, but also many of these people gave me wonderful advice and were able to help me in my classes as well.

Throughout the year there were so many things that I never thought I would ever get the chance to do. From slip and slide kickball to swimming through a waterfall there were so many different experiences that just added to the craziness and eventfulness freshman year brought. I also learned it is very important to find things to do both on and off campus to make sure you do not get bored. Of course maintaining your grades is important, but also being able to enjoy yourself is even more important. As long as you can balance both aspects, your time in college with be amazing.

As I say farewell to freshman year I will never say goodbye to the memories and friends I have made along the way. I can only imagine what will happen my sophomore year.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
