Freshman Year, As Told By Liz Lemon

Liz Lemon was (and will probably always be) the most relatable character to ever be on television. Not only was she honest and hilarious, but she often had no clue what she was doing--much like the average college freshman. Here are 30 examples of how Liz Lemon perfectly describes the freshman year journey.

1. Being so wide-eyed and excited when you first arrive.

2. Struggling to meet people in this unfamiliar environment.

3. Actually putting effort into your appearance during the first week.

4. Trying all kinds of crazy taboo things with your newfound freedom.

5. Feeling way too overwhelmed after your first day of classes.

6. Reading your syllabus and realizing you already had work due.

7. Going to the first meeting for any campus organization that sounds even remotely interesting.

8. Trying to sound like an adult while ordering food for yourself.

9. The first time you manage to get through an enormous workload without freaking out.

10. Realizing that the college party scene isn't as amazing as it's cracked up to be...

11. ...and neither is the dining hall.

12. Disassociating yourself from high school students as much as possible.

13. Trying to bond with upperclassmen and convince them that you aren't just a lame teenager.

14. Being unprepared when your professor suddenly dumps a ton of work on you at once.

15. When your college romantic life isn't exactly living up to your expectations.

16. Growing so used to getting free food at events that you're shocked and upset when there isn't.

17. Feeling the inevitable doom of your first finals week.

18. Telling yourself at the end of your first semester that you've still got three and a half more years to bring up your GPA.

19. Coming back for your second semester, ready to take on the world.

20. And then that workload hits you all over again.

21. Pretending it's all under control, because you're not a first-semester freshman anymore and you don't have an excuse for being disorganized.

22. Trying to be cute on social media so that your high school friends will be jealous of how well you're doing.

23. Slowly counting down the days until spring break.

24. When people are already asking you about your future plans, as if you're supposed to have them worked out already.

25. Covering for yourself when you get teased for still wearing your high school apparel.

26. Avoiding that Freshman Fifteen.

27. Failing your first test and making peace with the fact that you'll amount to nothing and probably become a stripper or something.

28. Accepting the fact that you have no money for anything and the lack of shame that goes with it.

29. Trying to comfort your overwhelmed friends even though you're just as stressed as they are.

30. Finally reaching the point where you just pray that you'll be able to make it through three more years of this.

To all my fellow freshmen out there: drive on, brave warriors. Always remember that Liz Lemon would want you to succeed.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
