College is something most people look forward to all four years of high school.
When you finally get to be a student at a college it can be scary, overwhelming, but also the best time of your life.
College is a learning process, and some of the most important things I've learned came from my freshman year.
1. What you wear to class doesn't matter.
You definitely don't have to look good when you go to class. You start to not care what people think about you, and literally roll out of bed, brush your teeth, and go to class. You'll be lucky to have your hair brushed. When you walk into class, you find out that everyone is in the same attire as you are.
2. It's okay if you haven't decided on a major just yet.
Freshman year is all about core classes, so you still have time to decide exactly what you want to major in. Now is the time to start thinking about it, since it is a huge decision that will impact your entire life...no pressure, am I right?!
3. Being homesick is a real thing.
I remember looking back to when I was in high school and wanting to leave my hometown so bad, and start to live on my own. I now start to realize that being away from your hometown is fun and all, but you miss it more than you would've ever imagined.
4. You call your mom for literally EVERYTHING.
Whether it is just to tell her about your day, or to ask the millions of little questions you have from being on your own like how to cook, how to do laundry, or just to have a ranting session.
5. Your friends help you more than you realize.
College is full of stress, anxiety, and pressure, but one important thing that freshman year taught me was that your friends are always there for you and make it a little less difficult to deal with the hard times that come along with being in college.

6. College is harder than you expected.
My idea of college was the parties, staying up all night, and being able to do whatever you want. I never really thought about how hard the classes can actually be. I found out that it is very different than high school classes, and that you have to learn to manage your time to do well and maintain a good GPA.
7. Coffee is a lifesaver.
Pulling all-nighters to study can't be done without coffee, or just getting through a long day containing never-ending piles of homework. It helps you out more in college than you could ever have imagined.
8. Do whatever you possibly can to not take an 8 AM.
Sleep is a valuable thing in a college student's life. 8 AM's tend to try to take that away, so I learned to stay away from them if possible!
9. Eating healthy is a challenge.
You get used to the routine of your parents cooking for you, then you move to college and try to do whatever you can to maintain a cheap meal plan, which usually includes fast food. It's different trying to eat well when you have to buy all the expensive groceries when you could easily just get something off the dollar menu.
10. You find out so much about yourself.
You learn a whole lot about yourself when you switch environments and start college. You start to learn who you are now, who you want to be in the future, and of course, who is there for you and will be by your side through it all.
