If Your Freshman Year Wasn't Embarrassing, You Did Something Wrong

Ah to be young, wild and free. To be innocent and carefree. Full of hope and ignorant to the darkness that is the reality of the adult world. Freshman year is a time when you grow, learn and transition into adulthood in a matter of nine months. You might have hated it, you may have loved it, you might not even entirely remember most of it. All in all, many of the lessons of freshman year are universal and whether you think so or not, most people went through the exact same things as you.

1. You definitely had to ask an upperclassmen where a certain building was during the first week of classes.

Ah, hopefully they don't remember that..... but you already know that they went and laughed at you with the rest of their big scary upperclassmen friends.

2. Your first crush turned out to be a total weirdo.

You got to campus, fell in love, and then realized over the course of the next few months that this dude was freakin lame. Now you see him around campus and laugh at yourself for once wanting a piece of that.

3. You used to care about your appearance.

If you were anything like me, you used to wake up like an hour before class EVERY morning and made sure you looked like a MAC store every day. Now you look back and regret how much sleep you gave up and how little you now care about your appearance as you quite literally roll out of bed and sprint to your class at 7:59.

4. You learned that "Netflix and Chill" won't be the basis of the "how we met" story you tell your grandkids.

But he said I was hot, so like why didn't he text me the next day? Honey we've all been there, it's just never a pretty situation.

5. The cookies kept coming and the exercise died off.

Seriously, that Freshman 15 was not a joke. Why didn't people emphasize this more? I really thought they were all kidding. I'm pissed.

6. You served your turn as the "Party Foul".

It's college, things get crazy and it's a time to test your limits. Unfortunately, that means embarrassing yourself once or twice when you've tested those limits a little too much. We've all been there, we just don't remember it.

7. Homework was a "chance to prove yourself to the professor".

Literally I can't even. There was once a time at the very beginning of freshman year when I had convinced myself that if I put 5000 percent into EVERY. SINGLE. ASSIGNMENT; I would "grow as a person" and "challenge myself" or something like that. LOL.

8. You thought the whole school revolved around you and your life.

"Omg if this gets out no one is gonna talk to me ever again." "I can't eat in the cafeteria, my outfit is not as fire so everyone will be judging me." "Literally my laptop went off in class and everyone totally heard, I can never show my face again." That's cute.

9. You didn't take full advantage of it.

You only got one, and it went by TOO fast. Any mistake, regret, wrong decision you were loud to pull the "Oh but I'm just a freshman" card. You were still excited about school, you got to meet new friends every day, and you didn't have to worry about getting your life together. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Cheers to the fishy years.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
