11 Things To Do Before Your Freshman Year Ends

It's hard to believe the year is almost over!!

11 Things To Do Before Your Freshman Year Ends

As the year comes to a close and finals approach, my mind is in a reflective mood. There's a lot I have accomplished this year, and I feel proud of the growth I've achieved, academically, socially, and mentally. However, there are still a few things on my freshman year bucket list that I would like to do before the year ends.

Get at least one more free t-shirt from a campus event

Anushree Rayarikar

Free t-shirts are truly like crack for college students. Even though I probably have a billion free shirts in my closet that I barely ever use, I still want at least one more, just to remember the end of the year by.

Find a niche spot on campus that not many people know about

Anushree Rayarikar

This way, when next year's freshmen are swarming the campus trying to find a place they love on campus, you already have your secret courtyard to do your homework calmly in!

Go for a bike ride with the rec bicycles

Anushree Rayarikar

On many college campuses, there are free bike rentals scattered around for students to check out! This is a fun and accessible way to enjoy a lovely day outside and explore parts of the campus you haven't seen before.

Have a fun dorm movie night

Anushree Rayarikar

For most college freshmen, this is the only year you'll be living in the dorms. While dorm life can be difficult, one of the best things is that your friends are literally all in the same building as you! So invite them up to your room, microwave (but don't burn) some popcorn, and watch a cheesy rom-com for one of the last times in that room

Go on a photoshoot around the town

Anushree Rayarikar

My friends Kenzie (pictured), Ashley, and I had a photoshoot around Uptown Normal recently. It was a ton of fun! We just goofed around and found beautiful murals to pose in front of. Now that the weather is warm again, it's the perfect time to memorialize the end of the year by getting dressed up and taking pics.

Picnic on the quad

Anushree Rayarikar

All you need for this one is a blanket and some snacks! Everything's better when you're in the sun, so get out there and grab some fresh air!

Find a new favorite restaurant in your college's town

Anushree Rayarikar

My college's little uptown area has a lot of quaint shops and eateries. The one I went to was an ice cream shop called Emack and Bolio's. Find your favorite spot to eat, so that when you come back in the fall, you'll have a go-to hang out place!

Do a photoshoot with the campus squirrels

Anushree Rayarikar

Everyone knows that college squirrels are bold AF! This one right here literally struck a pose for me!

Find a new place to hangout on campus

Anushree Rayarikar

All college campuses have lots of things to do — you just have to find them! It could be a fun spot on the quad, like this gazebo, or it could be a building like the Bowling and Billiards Center here at ISU! Whatever it is, grab your squad and make some plans, because you're gonna miss em in the summer.

 Hammock on the quad

Anushree Rayarikar

If you haven't been hammocking, it is one of the most peaceful things ever! Grab a few of your best friends, put the hammock up (with a tad bit of a struggle), and chillax.

Go people watching on the main campus

Anushree Rayarikar

College is, well, weird. There's always something weird or interesting happening on campus, and people watching is a good way to pass the time. Just sit on the quad and take it all in because, in a few weeks, we will all be back in our hometowns away from all the craziness we are so used to!

So, get out there and make the most of the few weeks we have left! Crossing things off of my freshman bucket list is truly so satisfying. I can't wait to have an amazing summer and be back here at my home away from home in the fall.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

The 14 Stages Of The Last Week Of Class

You need sleep, but also have 13 things due in the span of 4 days.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

StableDiffusion

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
