Freshman year is like the first year of high school all over again. You don't know anything or anyone, and it can be frightening. So here are some tips to all of you freshman out there to make the start and the rest of your year much easier. Here is my top five tips of advice.
1. Go to all orientations.
It may sound stupid and they may be boring, but in the long run, it will really help. The more you know and the more confident you are, the more at ease you will be as well as not being as stressed out when problems arise.
2. Get organized.
In high school, teachers often reminded you and led you through due dates. In college, the professors often post the assignments for the whole semester, and while they may give you a reminder, it's best to write assignments down ahead of time. So get a planner or a big calendar, whatever you think will work to help keep you organized.
3. Talk to your professors.
As a student, there is no negative things out of talking to them. Getting to know them is beneficial, especially if you run into snags. They also schedule office hours for the sole purpose of meeting with students. They want to get to know and help you, even if it may not seem like it.
4. Get to know your roommate and others in your residence hall.
The people you live with are experiencing new first and similar emotions to what you are experiencing. The people you talk to your first year will become some of your best friends, so don't be afraid to talk to someone new!
5. Get involved on campus.
