To my First Roommate,

I am and will forever be thankful for you. In just nine months, you became one of my closest friends. You have seen me at my best and my worst. So I thought I should thank you for everything you've done for me.

1. Thank you for putting up with my mess.

I know that I am not the cleanest person out there, but not one time did you complain when my clothes were all over the floor.

2. Thank you for sharing my love of all things Disney.

There is no one else that I would want to sing the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack at 11 p.m. with.

3. Thank you for listening to all of my daily/nightly rants.

I am not sure what I would have done if you hadn't been willing to listen to me rant about the various things that happened on a particular day, so an extra thank you for that!

4. Thank you for sharing your food with me.

You saved me many trips to the store and I am forever thankful for that!

5. Thank you for always wishing me good luck.

You never failed to wish my good luck on tests and interviews. I'm really going to miss those next year.

6. Thank you for sharing school supplies with me.

Just like the food, you saved my butt many times just by lending me a pencil. My grades are thankful for you.

7. Thank you for putting up all of my alarms.

Most people cannot stand how many alarms I set in the morning so thank you for not being like most.

8. Thank you for bringing me toilet paper when we ran out.

Countless times I ran out of toilet paper and you were always there to the rescue. You're like a real-life superhero!

9. Thank you for ugly crying with me while watching Nicholas Sparks movies.

We all need a friend who is willing to that with us. Now we know how many boxes of tissues we need.

10. Thank you for picking me up after I got a bad grade.

Those days meant more to me than you will ever know.

11. Thank you for not judging me for not doing my laundry every week.

Never did you make a nasty face when I said I wasn't doing laundry. You understood how obnoxious it was to walk down two flights of steps to actually do it and knew I was too lazy to do it most weeks.

12. Thank you for being my personal stylist.

You and I both know I know little about fashion. So thank you for putting up with the constant, "you sure this looks okay?" questions.

13. Thank you for letting me borrow clothes.

Again you were a superhero and lifesaver in that department too!

14. Most importantly, thank you for making the college transition so much better!

Without you, I don't know if I would have been able to get through this year. You have quickly become like the sister that I never had. I know there are so many things that I could thank you for and I'll just send you a text when I think of them! I can't wait to see where life takes us!

With Much Love,

Your First Roommate

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
