Going into my final semester of college is quite an experience as I am about to graduate one and half years earlier than I should. It has been a change being able to go through college so quickly because I had to attend four years of high school. So, with the summer winding and school across the nation starting up again I decided to ask my girlfriend, Kaitlyn, who will be an incoming freshman at the University of Indianapolis what she is most excited about this year.

1. Meeting new people.

She simply stated that she is so excited to get out and meet new people, having been around the same group of people the last four years was exhausting and she is ready for a fresh start. I echo this statement as I was very ready to get to school and meet all sorts of new people from all over in fact one of my best friends is from Michigan!

2. Food.

Being a commuter will be a new change for her this fall and she is very interested in learning where some of the better places to eat on campus are. Since she is commuting she will be on campus for large portions of the day and will be eager to find the local Starbucks for her morning kick. As a freshman I stayed on campus and did my very best to eat at every single place I could find. It also is a new experience and I tried all sorts of new types of food such as sushi which is now my go to meal on-campus.

3. Eagerness to learn.

High School was simply too easy for Kaitlyn and she is looking for the challenging classes that await ahead for her. She will be going into the Nursing program with the intent to be in the pediatrics unit when she graduates. I went into the Finance with an idea of being a Financial Planner/Advisor to help others with their finances and planning for retirement and savings.

4. Organizing and planning.

There is almost nothing better in the world than have a well-organized and color-coated agenda for her. She has expressed her love for having her classes and study times well planned out in advance so that she can have certain parts of her day open for relaxation, but it has to be color-coordinated and it has to look really good. I myself am a very dull man and decided to wing just about every single day that I experienced in my freshman year and while it was nice having an open schedule it often led to hectic days.

5. Being with older people.

Kaitlyn will go into college with several credits and be ahead of many of her peers. And she has told me that she is excited to learn and grow with older students who have had an experience with a certain professor or class that she can get tips from. Being with upperclassmen has its advantages and I have been in her shoes before as a freshman I was in junior level classes and was able to pick up many tips and tricks for certain classes and tests.

College is quite different than High-School and regardless of what year of college you will be in this year it will always be a new experience. For me graduating will be one of the best things as I will be the first person in my family to graduate. For Kaitlyn she will be the first and only member of her family to attend college and she is eager to start the next chapter of her life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
