Maybe last semester didn't go the way you wanted to 28th relationships and grades. However, this semester is a new start

1. Cut out toxic people from your life if all else fails. But first, give them a chance. People really do change, you never know what they are going through. Be willing to not only listen, but help others around you.

2. You can fix your grades this semester to improve the GPA. Just because you think you have not been the best student in the past is a lame excuse for allowing mediocrity to seep in. Push yourself, but do so in a healthy manner.

3. Find an activity outside of partying or Netflix, such as jigsaw puzzles. Laugh if you want, but they are a great stress reducer and give a way to connect with new people and make connections, like the pieces in the puzzle. Another possible activity could be genealogy or coloring.

4. Stay in- there is nothing wrong with a little bit of Netflix, so watch a movie every Friday or Saturday night with close friends as a way to decompress and rest. You could take a series such as Star Wars and string it out over the course of a term.

5. Take classes outside of your comfort zone, I usually take one of these every semester. Last spring, it was African American Religious experience, this fall it was Indigenous Latin America politics. I learned a lot in both classes, and truly enjoyed them. This semester, my out of the comfort zone curse is golf, where I have the chance to make a fool of myself.

Good Luck this semester!

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Before that day, I never really thought about being a friend to myself, and at the time, I didn't really know what it meant. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.

Here are five things everyone should learn in order to be a better friend to themselves. These steps are hard, but they're so worth it.
