Fresh Air And Star Light

Everyone knows college is hard, but one must learn to live for the next break in the storm.

Fresh Air And Star Light

This past semester has been super hard. Harder than the past semesters. More difficult tests, double the amount of projects, and drama that people mistakenly say ends after high school. In the midst of all the all-nighters to finish projects and the mental break downs that seem to happen at least once a week, it’s hard to find peace.

Then, the break in the storm arrives. Even though it seems like you will never get a break from school work and enjoy your time, there is always a deadline that comes sooner than later. After the cutoff, you can finally put down the pen and breathe. The air will seem easier to carry into your lungs. Your chest will rise and fall with a familiar ease. Everything seems to be effortless for an instant.

I know the stress of college can seem more than you can handle at some points in time with all the 8 page papers and the 4 tests in a period of two days. However, as a college student, you need to live for that next intermission between the many acts and scenes of college. Learn to enjoy those fleeting, serene moments because that is what will carry you through.

God has made a sky full of stars. Lay down on the roof. Listen to the quietness of night. Hear the crickets playing you their never ending song. Hear the fountain with its peaceful lull. Just look at the stars, and you will feel small again.

All the toils, or struggles, that we, as the bright young minds of the next generation, are facing won’t really matter for long. Just remember that we won’t always have useless Science 101 homework forever or 8 page papers that specifically have to answer a prompt that doesn’t even make sense in the first place. All of this will pass away into memory.

So, go ahead. Trudge through the gruesome filth of college knowing that your break is coming. Just hang in there long enough to reach it. Perseverance and hard work will pay off in the long run, and the breath of fresh air afterwards will be that much sweeter.

In the encouraging words of my color guard squad,

“You got it, Janice!”

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
