11 Frequently Asked Questions: Ginger Edition
Favim

Only 1 to 2 percent of the world has ginger hair. We are a rare, beautiful species. These questions are immediately thought of when encountering a ginger and me along with others are just sick of it. So people, please stop asking these questions to my fellow ginger friends. We get the same questions all the time and we're over it.

1. Is that your natural hair color?

Yes, you can't bottle this beauty. When you try and dye your hair to get the "ginger" look, it just is not possible. You end up with bright red or pink. So please stop asking if it's natural because the answer will always be yes.

2. Do you have a soul?

Does anyone really have a soul? So if you believe in that kind of stuff, then yes, gingers do have souls. I think people have souls, so, yes, I have a soul just like my blonde and brunette friends.

3. Is your favorite Disney Princess Ariel?

No. Just because I have the same hair color as her does not mean she is my favorite. My favorite is Rapunzel from "Tangled" and she is not a ginger.

4. Do you tan?

Because my dermatologist says I'm two skin tones away from being albino, I don't think it's possible for me to tan to a nice bronze. I can get a nice orange hue during the summer, though. I do know some gingers that can get tan.

5. Were you born with those freckles?

Just like every other human, gingers are born basically freckle-less. Freckles are a result of being out in the sun for too long and having it spot you. I know people that refer to them as sun spots. So no, because I am so white I have more freckles but I was not born with them.

6. Are you a genetic mutation?

As a person, I am not a genetic mutation but there is a mutation on one for my genes. MC1R or Melanocortin-1 receptor has a mutation causing the ginger gene.

7. Does the carpet match the drapes?

Why is that any of your business?

8. Are you Irish?

Where did this stereotype come from? Two of my good friends are Irish and one is blonde and the other of brunette. No, we are not all Irish. I am of Scottish decent. Not all gingers are Irish and not all Irish people are gingers.

9. Do you have a natural bond with other gingers?

I do find that gingers have a bond. One of my best friends is a ginger and we've been friends since Kindergarten. Every time I am with another ginger, even if I do not know he or she, I always make sure to talk to him/her and proclaim that we are no longer a minority at the moment.

10. Are you the redheaded stepchild?

My parents promise me that my sister and I are related. We may not look alike or act at all the same but we do have the same biological parents. I am not a stepchild...as far as I know.

11. Do your parents have red hair?

I don't live in a ginger cult, most gingers do not. Most of my ginger friends do not have red-haired parents but I do know some with one parent who has red hair.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
