The newly converted Freeform from ABC Family is well-known for its Holiday movies for the 25 Days of Christmas once a year. However, this year Freeform may have some competition. AMC is ramping up its Christmas movies to a whole new level beyond the offerings each night on Freeform. Alongside Freeform, AMC is offering all day, non-stop Christmas movies, enhancing the competition for your views.
Here is what you need to know before choosing which network to watch your holiday movies this season.
Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas have been one every year that I can remember. However, I've noticed over the years that the amount of classic, holiday movies have declined drastically. Instead of offering most of the classics, Freeform is choosing to promote some of their own Christmas movies including "Life-Size 2: A Christmas Eve" and "A Miracle on Christmas Lake," unlike AMC. Freeform is also opting out of showing exclusively Christmas movies during their 25 Days of Christmas by showing the Toy Story series, "Paddington," and Disney•Pixar's "The Incredibles." For this reason, AMC is more attractive for more classics people love and enjoy. Therefore, I'm predicting that Freeform will be losing views. Sorry, Freeform, but if you are not going to show "The Polar Express" — also known as the one Christmas movie every child watched growing up — do not expect your viewership to increase, but instead decline.
However, don't get me wrong, a non-Christmas movie is great during the Holiday season, just not as often as Freeform has listed them.
Despite Freeform's holiday movie showings, they are still catering towards a younger, adolescent and school-aged child. As a part of the Walt Disney Company, Freeform has the opportunity to adapt to a wide ranged audience including adults, teenagers, collegiates and children. It's good to watch a children's movie every once and a while but not all the time. AMC is offering specials that the whole family loves including "The Polar Express," "White Christmas," "Frosty's Winter Wonderland," and "Miracle on 34th Street."
With AMC's rise in showing Holiday and Christmas movies, they are opening the door to other networks to show different styles of Christmas movies. This year, Freeform may be the network for children's movies, and AMC may be the network for Christmas and Holiday specials.
Although, if you want a good feeling Christmas or Holiday movie, head over to Lifetime or Hallmark networks. They are the leaders in generic holiday movies that can be good to have on while at home, cleaning, studying, or cooking dinner. These movies easily get you into the Christmas spirit with the snow falling and kissing of a couple underneath the mistletoe.
Even though it seems like you may have only two options this holiday season, there is every type of holiday movies available through at least four leading holiday networks. Before you decide what network to watch this holiday season, consider the schedule, type, and timing of your favorite movie.
