I did not write this poem because of the recent election, however I do feel that it fits how some people are currently feeling.
Fear,
it’s taught from a young age,
but why?
We are supposed to be free,
aren’t we?
If we are free,
then why do we fear so much?
Freedom, the red, white and blue
that means so much to so many people.
Overruled by
fear.
Fear caused by people
abusing
their freedom and power.
Fear takes the form of
red.
Bold,
dark and deceiving.
I see
fear in people’s eyes.
Fear of the unknown,
fear of their freedom being
seized away from their grasp
by those who choose to
abuse the freedom
that we are supposed to be born with.
White is seized by
black.
The darkness that is in the hearts of the ones who
abuse their freedom.
Why do some take our
freedom for granted?
It’s everyone’s,
isn’t it?
Or is that just something
they say to keep us
quiet?
If we are free then
Why are there so many
unhappy people?
Distressed people?
Distraught people?
Our freedom
is taken away by our
fear.
After all,
fear casts
dark and deceiving
shadows in our
hearts and
skepticism in our minds.
In a battle of
Freedom versus fear,
we are the pawns in their
game.
The game that will undoubtedly be the decider of
the fate of our
freedom.
After all,
freedom is given,
but fear takes it away.
If we choose to stand by, and be ignorant, then things (complex or not) will slip through our fingers. But if we aren’t ignorant, then we can help stop injustice before it starts.
