Free Things To Do In San Diego Over Spring Break
Jennifer Fineman

It's spring break people. Time to go wild. Well, I am not saying you have to go wild. I am just suggesting that you find a way to have a ton of fun. San Diego is gorgeous. Perfect 72 degree weather year round; you can't say no to that. With a margarita or a smoothie in your hand and some friends, you are going to have a good time. But, what if you can't afford that margarita or that smoothie? Well, that is okay too. You are a college student. Although, in case you were wondering, here is a list of the top 15 free things to do while you are in San Diego over your spring break:

1. Go to one of our many beautiful beaches.

San Diego is known by many as the top surf city in the country. I wouldn't blame them. Perfect waves, perfect weather, you just can't get enough of that. You are taking a nice stroll with a loved one or friends, go for a run, watch the waves or relax. The beach is perfect for almost anything. Plus, it is way warmer than most beaches in our country. You have 33 beaches so take your pick.

2. Go take a bike ride through Balboa Park.

Take a nice, relaxing bike ride through Balboa Park. There is lots of great scenery.

3. Go to Balboa Park.

Balboa Park has so many events happening all the time so if you are just down there, I am sure you will find something to do.

4. Go to Mount Woodson.

This hike takes you to a cliff that looks like a potato chip. While you are there, you can take a picture of yourself feeling like a daredevil.

5. Explore the California surf museum.

Learn about how surfing started. The museum is free every Tuesday to the public.

6. Go to Coronado Island.

Is there really an island in San Diego? Yes, of course there is. It is San Diego and Coronado is gorgeous.

7. Hotel del Coronado has been there forever.

It is a gorgeous hotel that has been there since the 1800s. Plus, if you are lucky, you might be able to spot a gorgeous wedding going on along the strip of the hotel. This is a great place for families and couples to go.

8. Go to Old Town.

If you like Mexican food, I highly suggest going here. Lots of free, fun interactive things to do. Sometimes, if you are lucky, they give out free snacks at certain locations throughout Old Town.

9. Seaport Village is beautiful.

Are you going on a date and you don't have a lot of money? Well sir, I know just a place for you. Not only is there a beautiful Harbor, but also some amazing street painters and artists you can see along your stroll. Highly recommended.

10. Check out the sea otters.

Do you like watching sea otters? Well, go to La Jolla. Parking is terrible there, but if you are lucky or if you get there early enough, go check out the sea otters in downtown La Jolla.

11. Seaworld Fire Works are beautiful.

If you can't afford to go to Seaworld, you can still watch the fireworks from a distance. The fireworks are beautiful and worth seeing at some point.

12. Hillcrest is the hippest place in town.

Go check out Hillcrest. Hillcrest has the best thrift shops in San Diego, the best gelato and the most exciting, positive vibe of people. I highly recommend going here.

13. Pacific Beach (PB) is where the college students like to hang out.

If you want to hang out where other college students will be at, I am highly certain you will find them in PB.

14. Check out the Torrey Pines hiking trails.

Torrey Pines has 8 miles worth of hiking. The best part about this hike is that it overlooks the beach and you can walk down to the beach after it.

15. The Farmer's Markets are perfect places to find free food.

There is usually one happening every day in some part of San Diego. Plus, you get free food so you can't turn this down.

Now, you can't complain you have nothing to do in San Diego over spring break. Go out and have fun!

I've lived a whole 21 years with an RBF (Resting Bitch Face), so naturally, I go through most of these struggles on a daily basis.

And before you ask, yes I'm fine. No, I'm not mad. This is just my face, so take it or leave it! To those of you who have been #blessed with an RBF, you'll probably relate to these more than you'd like to:

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?

Throughout school, the theater department has always been my go-to place with go-to people when I need advice, a dance party, or just someone to listen to me vent.

You never know what's going to happen when you're dealing with theatre or what kind of characters you'll encounter. We have too much fun doing anything! One time in my senior year acting class, we spent an entire class period watching Bob's Burgers, and it was the greatest class period ever.
