Free Things To Do In Omaha This Summer: Midtown Crossing

I have lived in Omaha for over 13 years and it wasn't until recently that I realized that there are so many great things to do here in the city for FREE. I have compiled a list below which describes some great free events going on specifically at Midtown Crossing here in Omaha. These events are great for anybody and everybody and have I mentioned they're free? It doesn't get better than that!

Yoga Rocks The Park

This is a weekly 60-minute yoga class made for all levels that is accompanied by live music. It takes place at Turner Park in Midtown Crossing with registration starting at 3:30 p.m. and yoga starting at 4 p.m.

Monday Night Movies at Midtown

Monday at dusk you can enjoy a free movie screening at Turner Park in Midtown Crossing. The movies are family friendly and shown on a really big screen. All you need is some lawn chairs and snacks and you are ready to go!

Wednesday Warm Up Cool Down

Wednesday from June 1 to August 31 at 5:30 p.m. in Turner Park, you can enjoy a great sweat session presented b Prairie Life Fitness. This event is open to the public and is a great and fun way to get your mid-week workout in. Classes vary but include Boot Camp, Turbo Kick, Barre, and Zumba.

Playing With Fire (Saturday June 2nd)

A collection of genres including blues, soul, funk, R & B, and rock, this event features some of the best artists. The park will be open for seating at 3:30 p.m. and music will begin at 4 p.m.

Broadway Dreams Foundation: Generation Performance (June 10)

Give Me The Beat is a concert that will include a performance by local Omaha Band HIGH HEEL, followed by performances from The Broadway Dreams students and famed faculty, and will conclude with a performance by Camille Metoyer Moten who will sing accompanied by the Salem Baptist Church Choir. This event will take its audience through a history of popular music and dance. The first performance begins at 6:30 p.m.

“The Pool” Interactive Light and Color Exhibit (June 24 – July 3)

In celebration of the return of the US Olympic Swim Trials, Turner Park will host a fully interactive light and color experience. “The Pool” is available during park business hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and the pads will be fully lit from 7 – 11 p.m. each night. There will be dance parties June 24, 26, 28, 29, 30 and July 1, from 8 – 10 p.m. “The Pool” is like a giant game of ping pong where users jump, run, and mix light together and is a piece that has been featured in festivals across the world in places like Singapore, Sydney, Lisbon, Prague, London, and Istanbul.

Jazz On The Green

This series includes a variety of band and solo performances. It takes place every Thursday from July 7 – August 11. The park opens for seating at 5 p.m., the pre-entertainment opens at 6:30, and music begins at 7:30 p.m.

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
