Resumes are tricky business. Recruiters may spend only six seconds looking over one to decide if they want to read it further or pass on it. That's why you want to do all you can to try to get your résumé into the correct pile.
So what can you do to aid your resume?
For one thing, don't get overly creative. A little bit of personality is OK, but avoid photos and gimmicky bits. If a recruiter is only spending a few seconds on something of yours, you want their attention to be on your experience – not your face.
Highlight yourself by putting your expertise and skills at the top. If you feel your résumé is a little lackluster in those areas, perhaps consider one of those free certificate courses you can earn on your free time. It will show a recruiter you're willing to learn and have dedication by taking your own time to better yourself.
1. IBM - Watson Analytics 101.
This is great for business analysts, data journalists, and anyone with interest in analytics.
2. United Nations - Information Security Awareness.

3. Google Analytics Academy.
Another analytics course, but one that focuses specifically with Google's analytics. You will learn stuff such as how to create an account, implement tracking code, analyze basic reports, and set up goals and campaign tracking.
4. YouTube Certification.
This one you need to apply for, but once accepted and completed, it will look great on a résumé, especially when applying for any kind of digital marketing. The YouTube certification can help you learn the ins and outs of channel creation, growth, and monetization on YouTube.
5. Deputy Heart Attack® Course.
While not as flashy as some of the others, this one is extremely important and relevant wherever you are. Become a deputy and spread the message that death and/or heart damage can be prevented! The Deputy Heart Attack program provides the essential early heart attack care education to help you save a life!
6. FEMA Training.
Once you qualify for enrollment, there are nearly 200 classes for you to take. These are offered by the Emergency Management Institute (EMI). All the classes are self-paced and designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public.
Any of these would aid a resume, and also yourself, as well! There are also so many more courses out there, too, just take a look sometime!
And if you need a break from perfecting a résumé, why not look into a little more fun certificate? Might I suggest the Unicorn Hunting License?
