Madison, Wisc. is a hell of a place. My roommate and I went to Madison over the weekend to visit our friend who goes there. We heard stories about Freakfest and decided we would like to experience it ourselves. I’m glad we did. First off we got to see some of our high school friends that we haven’t seen in a while which was great. I relish anytime I get to see my best friends. Then something amazing happened.
Freakin’ Freakfest…
Let me start with what everyone was wearing. My roommate and I were Mario and Luigi, our host and friend Andy was bacon and eggs, our friend Josh was a Stormtrooper, and last but not least our friend Ryan was…a bottle of sriracha. He forgot to get a costume so he wore a sriracha shirt. Yeah he’s lame, but so be it.
I didn’t know exactly what to expect before we got to State Street. I thought it would probably be pretty packed, but I underestimated it. As soon as we got to the entrance we could see the sea of people that made up Freakfest. There were approximately 34,000 people there. There were all kinds of crazy characters walking around. We saw several other Marios and Luigis and almost all of them came up to us and high fived us. There was a guy dressed as Slenderman just standing in one spot the whole time in a very Slenderman fashion. People were constantly walking up to him to get a picture though so good for him I suppose. We went to a bar and met up with a group of UND friends that also happened to be there that weekend. Meeting up with them was pretty much the icing on an already delicious cake.
We then walked to the capital where a stage was set up for the concert that was going on. We got there in time to see Timeflies. I didn’t know any of their music, but the concert was a blast nonetheless.
Overall it was a great Halloween. It definitely exceeded my expectations because frankly, I didn’t have any expectations. It was more fun than I could’ve ever expected and we have our good friend Andy to thank for that because he was willing to let us stay in his house for the weekend.
If you want a fun time, I would absolutely recommend checking out Freakfest next year. It is a blast.
