Everyone remembers freshman year. You are just pulling into the move-in area for the dorm you decided to stay in. You are exhausted because you have been packing all night to make sure you did not forget anything. And after all is said and done, you are finally moved in.Â
You walk into your room and say, "Wow, I even get my own desk!"Â You think it is great, but when your RA starts to give you problems about the most minuscule issues, you start to reconsider.Â
So, you decide to rush a fraternity. You walk into this mansion thinking all you are going to see is American flags and pictures of half-naked women. While that may be in some areas of the house, you see past that. The second you walk in, all you think about is all the great times you are about to share in this castle of memories.Â
The great times commence, and you realize this is the best decision you have made in your life. It doesn't stop there. You think to yourself, "How can I take this to the next level?" That is when it finally hits you: living in the house that gave you the greatest of memories your first semester of college completely changes the game.
Now it is move-in day number two, and things have changed since your first experience moving in. Instead of packing your pencils and paper, you're thinking about what you're going to do with your room. You're thinking of what color and designs you want on the wall, instead of a calendar that says when your classes are. You're fantasizing about not having to walk to the dining hall to eat when you can just walk downstairs with food already made by your chef. You are eagerly waiting to be surrounded by your fraternity brothers rather than people you hardly know. No one wants to be in such a collegiate environment all the time. The only weekly meetings you are going to have to go to are the ones at chapter, as opposed to the boring ones your RA makes you go to. Yeah, they're informative, but we go to class to be informed, not our dorm.
You also didn't want to be in your dorm on the weekends. That's the main difference between dorms and fraternity houses. You definitely want to be in the fraternity house on the weekends. Freedom is the one word that best describes weekends here. All of your fraternity brothers are looking forward to the party you guys are about to throw. This party will be huge. This party will be in honor of all the goals you guys have achieved, whether it's reaching a new goal for the philanthropy this semester, or because it has been a long week for all of you. Regardless of the reason, you are going to have a great time with your brothers over the weekend. It doesn't get much better than that.Â
The weekend is amazing, but the week is time for schoolwork, which is the whole reason we came to the University of Florida. Living in a fraternity house comes with a good balance between having fun and maintaining a superb GPA. The great thing about the fraternity house is that, most likely, someone has taken the class you are taking right now. All you have to do is walk to that person's room and ask for help. The whole reason why members of Greek Life have higher GPAs than others is because we are close and connected with hundreds of people who are successful and willing to help.Â
Whether you are trying to have a a great time with the people that care for you the most, or you want to know how do solve a complex physics problem, joining a fraternity and living in the house will help you out, substantially. Since it is pledging season, there are quite a few new members who are probably feeling the exact same way about Greek Life and the amazing environment the house gives them. Just remember, you want to have fun and be successful. Joining Greek Life and living in the fraternity house at the University of Florida is the way to do it!
