A Tribute To Our Frat Days: A Playlist For PSU's Rising Seniors

Why do all good things come to an end?

In a few weeks we are officially seniors. As 21-year-olds, we must trade the sticky floors of fratland for days on Cafe 210’s porch. As a class, we saw Penn State in a way that our younger generations never will.

We know what it’s like to have a registered Tuesday social and that Pi Kappa Phi is in fact a fraternity. There are few songs that will always take us back to the days we ran the streets all the way from Foster Ave. to Prospect.

Freshman Year

These songs flooded the corridors of East Halls around 8 p.m. every night. Nothing will ever parallel the sense of belonging that could be felt Saturday nights at the pink house. These were some of the best days: packed like sardines, sweating beads of happiness and belting Ke$ha at the top of our lungs.

1. "Clarity" - Zedd

2. "Fancy" - Iggy Azalea

3. "Stay The Night" - Zedd Feat. Hayley Williams

4. "Timber" - Pitbull Feat. Ke$ha

5. "Rather Be" - Clean Bandit

6. "Dark Horse" - Katy Perry

7. "All Night Longer" - Sammy Adams

8. "Turn Down For What" - DJ Snake & Lil Jon

9. "Wasted" - Tiësto Feat. Matthew Koma

10. "Wake Me Up" - Avicii

Sophomore Year

Just when you thought nothing could top freshman year, sophomore year comes along. The boys moving into the houses made late night better than ever. The best of nights were spent dancing to oldies with the ultimate crew—those who can survive past 2 a.m. We were old enough to run the show yet still young enough to collectively dance to a slightly more sophisticated cha cha slide.

11. "Post To Be" - Omarion Feat. Chris Brown & Jhene Aiko

12. "FourFiveSeconds" - Rihanna and Kanye West and Paul McCartney

13. "Honey, I'm Good" - Andy Grammer

14. "Come On Eileen" - Dexy’s Midnight Runners

15. "Nobody To Love" - Alex Newell

16. "Sugar, We're Goin Down" - Fall Out Boy

17. "Watch Me" - Silentó

18. "Trap Queen" - Fetty Wap

19. "Jordan Belfort" - Wes Walker & Dyl

20. "Cheerleader" - Omi

Junior Year

Things got a little weird junior year. We lost Mr. IFC but gained many rules. School work increased for virtually every major and on those rare occasions going out was in the cards, everything was different. When did everyone become 5-years-old? A bottle of wine and close friends became ~the move.~

21. "Ricky Ricardo" - KAPTN

22. "Sorry" - Justin Bieber

23. "Classic" - The Knocks Feat. Fetty Wop

24. "Molly Cyrus" - Stitches

25. "Roses" - The Chainsmokers Feat. Rozes

26. "Work" - Rihanna Feat. Drake

27. "My House" - Flo Rida

28. "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" - Mike Posner

29. "Make Up" - R. City Feat. Chloe Angelides

30. "Panda" - Desiigner

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
