At Miami, it’s a tradition that fraternity formals take place somewhere other than Oxford, Ohio. Different fraternities choose different places to spend the weekend such as Tennessee, West Virginia and Canada. This past weekend, I went to a formal in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, more well known as Fratlinburg. I packed a TON of stuff, and although some of it was left untouched, I’m glad I packed some things I thought would be unnecessary.

For any girls going to a fraternity formal, here’s your go-to survival guide:

1. Sunglasses

Sunglasses are essential for formal weekend because unless you get stuck with bad weather, it will be very sunny wherever you go. You'll spend a lot of time outside because honestly, almost any weather is better than Oxford.

2. Comfortable shoes

The weekend is pretty unpredictable, and running around an unfamiliar place in bad shoes will make it a rough time. Definitely bring shoes that are comfortable for both lounging and moving around. And for the formal part of formal, make sure you bring shoes that you can walk in.

3. Bug spray

I know this sounds intense, but trust me, it will come in handy. There were so many bugs at the formal I went to. Better to be safe than sorry, right?

4. Sunscreen

When you’re shopping for bug spray, I’m sure sunscreen will be close by. Although we’re lucky to have good weather at formal, sun brings sunburn, and that’s no fun to deal with.

5. Water bottles

As I always say, hydrate or diedrate!

6. Food

Formal is a fun but long weekend. Fraternities will often bring some food, but that’s not what they focus on. I suggest bringing things like protein bars, squeezable applesauce or pretzels— easy stuff like that that isn’t terrible for you.

* * *

Formal is a great time, and any girl who gets asked should take a chance and go! Just remember to be safe while also taking in this fun experience!

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
