14 Reasons Why Ellen Degeneres is the MVP of Television

I was seven when the first episode of Ellen premiered in 2003 on September 8th. Thirteen years later, Ellen has over 2,000 episodes and has hosted thousands of guests. I don't think the importance of Ellen on television can really be summed up to 14 reasons, because there are a thousands of reasons. When you have such a caring, selfless and positive person on television, how can you only have 14 reasons? However, I'm not writing a book over here so I'll have to work with twenty. For every lover of Ellen or anyone who has been living under a very large rock the past thirteen years and is not familiar with Ellen, this is for you.

1. She dances

Ellen starts off all her shows with a dance while her DJ and So You Think You Can Dance superstar Twitch picks out some nice jams. She dances through the crowds while everyone claps along with bright smiles on their faces. Which how could one not smile when in the presence of Ellen Degeneres?

2. She's not afraid to embarrass herself

She doesn't care to twerk, try new things and wears hilarious Halloween costume. At the end of day, if someone is smiling that's all Ellen cares about.

3. She promotes kindness

Ellen Degeneres is one of the kindest people on the planet, and that is coming from someone who has never met her. She promotes kindness with her signature sign-off, "be kind to one another, bye bye." Anyone on her show will never be offended or leave hurt by her tone or her words.

4. Ellen has a philosophy we should all have

With all the hate in the world, Ellen knows how to spread equality, love and kindness. She takes her 61.9 million followers on Twitter and her widely influential platform to spread greatness in the world.

5. She speaks the truth

She asks the hard-hitting questions and talks the serious talk....you don't need boys. True, Ellen, very true.

6. She is 100% genuine and real

In an industry full of actors and fake kindness, fake smiles and petty drama, Ellen stays out of it all, and when you see her on the television you know her tears are real and her laughter is genuine. What you see is what you get with Ellen.

7. Ellen is a matchmaker

Not only has she had proposals on her show but she tries to hook up co-stars, friends, and even her own co-workers together. It is something she is not shy about and prides herself in.

8. She remains positive when people tried to tear her down

Although today Ellen is funny and hugely successful, it hasn't always been that way. When Ellen came out as gay she got lots of criticism for her lifestyle, and her show was taken off the air. Rather than giving up and breaking down to adversity, she overcame it and is now one of the most influential people in the world, as well as a hero to many.

9. It's not all politics

It's like all you see when you turn on your television is politics, especially during election season. But, Ellen says herself she isn't a very political person, and although she has had the First Lady and the President of the United States on her show, it's not about their thoughts on abortion laws or gay rights, it's just fun. Just like when she had a push-up competition with Michelle Obama.

10. She shows raw emotion

Many people, especially on TV, hate getting real with their emotions and crying on camera. But, not Ellen. When she comes across an inspirational story, she breaks down along with the rest of the audience.

11. She surprises her fans and gives back to her supporters

She is constantly on the look-out for inspiring people. She surprises them at their house, in the audience or right in that seat next to her. She gives them vacations, she gives them cash, she gives them the chance to meet their favorite celebrities, she gives them hope, happiness and someone to look up to. She is so selfless and she inspires them just as much they inspire her.

12. She created 'Heads Up!'

It is a game that has swarmed through households and families across the world. A cheap app that brings the family together for some laughs and fun times.

13. She is an animal lover

Ellen is very vocal on animal rights, and takes great pride in being a vegan. She has many cats and dogs and her caring nature spreads to animals too.

14. She graced our presence with Sophie Grace and Rosie

It all started with a Nicki Minaj song that quickly turned these little girls into globally recognized icons. They are so excited and they love tutus, pink and sparkles!

So, in case you need any convincing, here are fourteen reasons why you should tune in to Ellen ASAP. She is the true MVP on television. Ellen can take anyone's bad day and turn it around for them.

Ellen--I doubt it--but if you ever read this, thank you for all the laughs.

"Be kind to one another."

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
