Fact: College is no longer a four-year-program.
With the chaos of life and how fast-paced everything is becoming, college is getting to be more and more difficult to finish in that tight four-year schedule everyone thinks of when they think of college. The issue with this is that so many students think college has to be done in four years, otherwise you're somehow a failure, or you're less than your peers.
That's not the case though. This crazy thing called life is so unpredictable, that it isn't fair to give yourself such a tight time frame to do things. Take me for example:
I started college in August of 2013. Now, in January of 2017, I am a Junior who has AT LEAST three more years left. Does that make me a failure or a bad student? No not at all!
Life happened. I had to deal with family crises, mental health issues, and that pesky little thing about planning my future. I mean, I've changed majors three times now. So, of course, I'm not going to graduate on time; I am taking care of life. Sure, school is part of my life, a very important part, but it's still important to take care of all the other aspects too.
If you can graduate in four years, that's great. Do it. More power to you. But for all of you who, like me, can't quite pull it off--don't beat yourself up. Instead of rushing yourself, take your time. Learn wonderful things, find your passion, fall in love, make friends, make memories, see the world, take care of yourself, enjoy the life you have while it's happening. Don't get so fixated on making a four-year deadline that you forget to live for four years. Life doesn't stop just because you're in college, so don't forget to live life and live it well. College isn't going anywhere, but life will.
