One of the main reasons why students are unable to join an organization on campus is because they don’t have enough time to attend the meetings. This can be because a class is at the same time as when the club meets or they have a job and would feel like they can’t contribute. With writing for the Odyssey, however, you don’t to worry about this being a problem. If you can’t attend the meetings you’re still contributing by writing articles each week. You won’t feel out of the loop and have to worry about missing any important information which makes it easy to join for busy students trying to find an extracurricular activity.

The best way to get to know people on campus is to join an organization. Joining a club is the easiest way to make friends with others who have the same interests as you. What drew me to write for the Odyssey was the idea that my articles were published on a platform where people could read and comment on my work. There’s a sense of pride involved when the articles are published because they are putting their work on display for the world to see and have to deal with the criticism they receive. It’s also a great way to build your resume and stand out when applying to jobs.
