Back in 2013, I was introduced to an organization that would forever change how I see the world. This organization, which has high school and college level branches of their clubs, works to improve a person's local and international community, future generations and the world through projects, fundraisers and outreach. This organization has clubs in almost every community, so you might know someone that is affiliated with one form of it or another. These people work in professions that vary from teachers and entrepreneurs to college presidents and company executives. What is this organization that unites them?
Rotary International, with Interact and Roteract at the high school and college level.
One of the things that I actually find unique about Rotary is their Four Way Test. At the end of every meeting, the Rotarians stand up and ask themselves, "Of the things we think, say and do: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
The first time I heard the Four Way Test, I was amazed. Here is an extremely large population that is going out to help others because it will make a difference (which went against the common thought that the world is not going to be kind to you when you grow up). Here is an organization that is fighting through the negativity and doing their best to put positivity in its place. And, in addition to that, the Four Way Test gets you, on a personal level, to start thinking about so many different things -- primarily school. (At least for me, that is.)
School, whether high school or college, tends to be a breeding ground for drama of all sorts. But, you don't have to add to it. In fact, one of the best ways to get away from drama is to join a service club like Interact or Roteract. But, if you do find yourself in a drama filled situation, remember the Four Way Test and think, maybe your actions will have an impact on them.
