What To Look Forward To After Football

Football is now over, and it is that period where everybody doesn’t know what to do with themselves anymore. Lo and behold there are many exciting sports opportunities to keep you entertained until football comes back. Here are just some of the more exciting options to look forward to:

March Madness

Nothing is arguably more exciting than March Madness. It is three weeks of pure craziness that leaves many people on pins and needles. Some are in it for the gambling, and others are in it because they want their teams to be victorious. Last year, everybody thought the Kentucky Wildcats would prove supreme since they went undefeated throughout the year into the tournament. That did not happen, though — they were defeated by Wisconsin in the final four minutes. There is just no way to predict what will happen in March Madness, and that is the reason why it is the best tournament in sports. It all gets going on March 15 for the play-in games but the real March Madness gets going on March 17 when the first round games start.

MLB Opening Day

We are half-way through February and that means we are close to baseball season. Spring training is about to start, and after that, the real season begins. Baseball means warm weather, relaxing and getting outside more. The season should be tough to predict as last year’s champions, the Kansas City Royals, will have to defend their crown without some of their key players from last season. Many teams should be better than they were last year, and a plethora of new talent should be emerging. It all gets started on April 3.

NBA Playoffs

The NBA All-Star game was just this past weekend, and that means the playoffs are right around the corner, as well. The NBA Playoffs are a two-month slugfest and there is always drama. Last year, the Golden State Warriors surprised some when they were able to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games in the NBA Finals. The Cavaliers were not healthy in the finals as they lost Kevin Love in their first round matchup and Kyrie Irving in the finals. If Cleveland can stay healthy, this year's finals should be a lot better. Golden State is on a rampage but the San Antonio Spurs are right behind them. Those three teams should be seen as the favorites going in. The NBA Playoffs will get started on April 16.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
