It's sadly the end of football season and the beginning of a new year with many exciting things to look forward to. With spring semester comes cool weather (in the south), Mardi Gras season, and the infamous Formal season for Greeks.
Try not to cringe and think back to the over-dramatic production we called Prom season. If you claim that you didn't stress about not having a date or what the after party plans were, you're lying. Every girl secretly worried they weren't going to get asked and if they are part of the select few with boyfriends, they secretly hoped for an elaborate "Promposal." Now times that unnecessary drama by 20 and you have yourself a Formal.
At my high school, guys asked the girls. No questions asked. In college, the girls must take initiative. Nothing elaborate, a simple text will do. But we act as if the boys will laugh in our face, call us ugly and then say no.
So we wait until the last minute. We tell ourselves we don't need no man and we're independent enough to go alone. Until the real nerves start kicking in about a week prior and then the panic ensues. We're desperate at this point and we might even be willing to bring our brothers' friends' cousin we met at Reggie's last week. Anyone with a pulse; we just don't care.
However, once we finally make it to Formal, we realize it shouldn't matter whom you bring or what the plans are afterward (if you can even make it out) are. You're with all of your friends in fancy dresses you wore to your Junior Prom!
Thankfully I got Formal out of the way already, but for all you ladies making Formal plans months in advanced, remember you can still have fun even if you bring the schlub from your history class.
