We often find ourselves sitting on the benches beneath the Beaumont Tower or strolling through the botanical gardens with our few spare minutes, but there are some places on campus we definitely don't give enough attention to:
1. Downtown East Lansing Alleyway
551 East Grand River Ave.
This alleyway is definitely underutilized by students on campus. All of the outdoor seating, twinkling lights and storefronts make this the perfect place for a first date.
2. Division Street Garage: Bottom Level
181 Division St.
Artist Tony Hendrick’s “Michigan Passageway” mural can be found at the elevator and stair entrance of the Division Street Garage. The mural was installed by the local artist as an extension of The Broad Art Museum’s opening festivities.
3. Division Street Garage: Top Level
181 Division St.
Though it’s very unexpected, the view from the top of the Division Street Garage might be one of the best views on campus. Facing South, you can see the top of Beaumont Tower, the stadium, changing leaves and most of North Neighborhood.
4. Courtyard Behind Student Services
556 E Circle Dr.
Remember when Rory found her perfect study spot against the old tree on Yale’s campus? I’m pretty sure the courtyard behind the Student Services building is comparable. Check it out next time you're in the area, the atmosphere alone is an instant stress reliever.
5. Curious Book Shop
307 E Grand River Ave.
I suggest coming here at least once as a Michigan State student. Especially on days where nothing goes right, the old books and vintage decor in this homey bookshop will give you all the comfort you need.
6. Gideon Mendel’s "Drowning World"
Red Cedar River
In his exhibit Drowning World, artist Gideon Mendel uses his photography to expose natural disasters in their truest form. His powerful project is featured at Michigan State's Broad Art Museum and has recently been installed along the Red Cedar River.
