With Halloween being just around the corner I was bought back to the years of trick-or-treating and costume picking and I couldn’t help but feel nostalgic about my childhood in general. The 90's and 00's were a great time for family friendly entertainment. So with that nostalgic feeling, I give you the best of forgotten Disney movies:
1. Halloweentown
Before there was Harry Potter, there was Marnie, this super cool and quirky human who didn’t know she was a witch. What was even more awesome was her grandma who was this epic witch who lived in Halloweentown where every day was Halloween. I mean what kid wouldn’t love that?! This movie is a definite classic and one that I will always remember. But, we seem to forget about it until Halloween comes around!
2. Quints
Remember that big production about “Octomom” well Disney took a more beautiful take on it like 10 years prior in a movie called Quints about a preteen who’s mom gives birth to 5 babies and the town went crazy (with excitement of course). I won’t give too much away but the feels in this movie are so worth the box of tissues you are bound to go through while watching it.
3. The Color of Friendship
Disney deserves a medal for this movie. Seriously! For those of you who aren’t familiar with this mega political movie about friendship here are the deets. In this movie, a girl comes to America from South Africa to live with this African American family. Only she isn’t black… she's white and while most of the family accepts her, the daughter of the family totally isn’t having it. But in the end they totally become besties and braid each other’s hair. Although, this is a total watered down version of the movie’s plot. I urge anyone and everyone to watch this movie at least once in theirlifetime.
4. Zenon
So I don’t know about you but Nebula was my spirit animal and Zenon was the best friend I always wanted. I mean, who wouldn’t want to visit a space station in 2049 with retro metallic fashion, stellar lingo and a killer music sensation?! Disney needs to bring this back, like yesterday.
5. Johnny Tsunami
As a child, and even now I have zero hand eye coordination, but for 2 hours Disney allowed me to live vicariously through Jonny Tsunami on the shores of Hawaii and pretend I could actually surf… and then miraculously skateboard. This movie has all the teenage angst of moving and all the supercool action of being a sports prodigy. Plus the kid who played Johnny was beyond swoon worthy which is always a bonus.
So as the year is ending and we race to all the awesomeness of the holidays to come, indulge in your Disney childhood and live it to the fullest! I know I am.
