You know that moment when you're just scrolling through Twitter, and something random catches your eye? That happened to me recently. I came across a Tweet of a picture that really unsettled me. I agreed with it, in a way; but, I saw the last words in it and was immediately saddened and frustrated. Here's the picture:
I get it; I totally get it. It is super tiring and annoying forgiving people over and over even though we don't believe that they deserve it. But, let's be real here. NONE OF US deserve any forgiveness we get. We don't deserve it in the slightest. However, we are blessed with it anyways. Jesus died so that we could be forgiven. Because He forgives we should forgive.
"In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace." Ephesians 1:7
God calls us to forgive others often, not just once. No, they don't deserve it. None of us do. That shouldn't matter; we should forgive them anyways.
"Then Peter came up and said to Him, 'Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.'" Matthew 18:21-22
Did you catch that? He said 77 times, not just 7! He wants us to forgive through the same mercy and grace He forgives us with. We are not above forgiveness. It does get tiring, and it does get annoying at times. However, think about the multitude of times that God has forgiven you. Did you deserve His forgiveness? No. Do I deserve his forgiveness? No.
What I'm trying to get at here is that just because not one of us deserves forgiveness doesn't mean we shouldn't bless others with it. You may not forget it; but, believe me, forgiveness will make it a whole lot easier. Forgive others just as He forgave you. You won't regret it.
