Being a human in this world, it is easy to waste time wishing for the future, like wanting to get your license, graduate high school, or turn 21. You start this habit young but the list goes on as you do. Then after we are wishing for what is next, we dwell on what already happened. We worry on what we, "coulda, shoulda" done or what we actually did. But as we spend our time anticipating what comes next or thinking about what already happened we forget to notice what is happening now and miss out on moments that we will eventually wish we cherished.
The saying, "Time flies when you are having fun," has never seemed so accurate until college came around. One second you are being dropped off at your freshman dorm and the next you are moving into an apartment. Just think about the past year and how life-changing it truly was or could have been depending on how much of what happened you actually appreciated or lived in that moment.
What is worse is not necessarily that one anticipates the future too much, but worrying about the past even more. Then it hits you and you realize there is nothing that can be done about what has already happened. It is what it is and there is no point in fighting a battle that can't be won.
Thankfully there is a solution, an answer to all your problems, or maybe just some advice. Stop it! Stop wanting the future to happen and stop dwelling on the past. Because you are living in the present and always will so why not just actually live it? It may not be all that exciting, but it is where you are right at that moment and why even risk a chance of missing out on your own life? Maybe if you experience life in the moment, then time will stop flying away from you and maybe you will no longer find the need to waste time on the past or future.
So, don't think about what's next and let go of what has happened because what is happening right now is all that really matters.
