Is it just me or has this summer flown by super fast? It seems like just yesterday I moved out of my dorm and finished my sophomore year of college. Summer is coming to an end, and there's some things college students have to make sure they get done before classes start in August. In case you forgot what needs to get done before you get back to a life of writing papers, hanging out with friends, taking tests and pulling all-nighters, here are some important things that need to happen before you get to school.
1. Buy Textbooks
No one likes to do this, but it's something that is a must before school is back in session. Buying textbooks is probably my least favorite part of coming back to school. I'm spending waaaaay too much money for books I'll probably never use. I know some people wait to buy them when they know if they will actually use them, but when you get them before school starts, you'll be better prepared for the first day of class. Most teachers require the books to be in your possession by the first week of school, so it's better to buy them ASAP.
2. Stock up on supplies
Living at school means that you need to have the essentials with you. It's better to have everything you need before you get to school so you aren't missing something important for your first day of school. How awkward would it be if you forgot to get shampoo and you have to go to your first class of the year with greasy, tangled hair? Gotta make a good first impression, and that's definitely not the way you want to do it.
3. Talk with your roommates to coordinate who is bringing what
It's always a good idea to see what your roommate is planning on bringing to school so that you both don't bring two of the same thing. If you are close enough to your roommate, you can most likely share things like pots and pans or a TV. Text or Skype your roommate(s) to see what they are bringing so you can better plan for move-in day.
4. Spend time with friends and family
Being home for the summer means that you get to spend time with your friends and family. But some people are so busy with work or are not home for most of the summer so that can be harder to do. Make sure that you give yourself time to spend with those you enjoy spending time with before you go your separate ways for school. Catch Pokemon or have a sleepover with your friends and put your phone away and go out to dinner with your family and watch a movie together on the couch. Those are the moments you'll remember when you start to get homesick at school.
5. Think of a goal for the school year
A new school year means a new chapter in your life. Is there something you want to work on this year at school that you didn't do so well last year? Do you want to get more A's? Do you want to build your resume? Before you go back to school, figure out what you want to change this year and make a plan for achieving it. Just think of how accomplished you'll feel when you get more A's or if you get a job based on your improved resume.
