Being born and raised in the south, in a small town in Virginia, I can't ever see myself living in a large city. Or even a suburb for that matter. I grew up surrounded by small town folk with hearts of gold and rolling hills as far as the eye can see. I absolutely love it here, and frankly, I don't plan on ever leaving. Here's my list of 10 reasons the city is not for me.

1. Everyone has manners.

Growing up in the South, everyone has manners. People hold the door open for you. They employ the terms "yes Ma'am" and "no Sir." I'm not willing to give up the politeness that is Southern culture.

2. Beautiful landscape.

Nature is much more beautiful than the side of any skyscraper. Isn't it just breathtaking?

3. It's Mother Nature that blinds you.

In the city, the bright lights that make up the slogan on every billboard blind you. The sun, moon, and stars blind me.

4. The tranquil sounds.

The city provides the not so tranquil sounds of people, car horns, and sirens. I get to listen to the birds chirping, dogs barking, and cows mooing. I just love cows! I think they're the cutest things!

5. Bonfires smell better than cigarettes.

Cities just smell bad to me. I much prefer the scent of fresh cut grass and a bonfire to cigarette smoke. So bad for my lungs, but I inhale so deeply, the smell of a nice fire. It instantly relaxes me.

6. Space between everything.

I don't ever have to worry about someone being able to see through my windows.

7. No traffic.

Traffic is terrible in cities! Why would any sane person want to deal with that mess? Traffic is not my friend. I think I'd rather walk than sit through this.

8. Life moves slower.

Everyone is in a rush in the big cities. Like seriously, take a moment and enjoy life. All you see is the blurring figure of someone you know walking past you in the city. If the headphones are in and there's a latte in hand you don't even exist to them at the moment. If you keep moving as fast as you are you'll miss all the wonderful things life has to offer you.

9. Cities are like over populated fish bowls.

I need my space; don't be encroaching on my bubble.

10. Peace. Need I say more?

Such beautiful views exist atop a mountain.

Having visited NYC, the biggest city of all, I will say I can handle it for a few days. Like literally 3 days. I had a ton of fun with my best friends since preschool and my cousins, but certain things that happened while there, would never happen in my small town. A cabby would not almost run my cousin over and make me go all Miss Congeniality on him and a man hiding in a shopping cart would not have jumped out and screamed at me. That's how people get hurt.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
