This week while i was doing my usual twitter scrolling, I stumbled upon a person who went on to twitter to share a story of her experience with the popular, US store, Forever 21. She tweeted: "Thanks @Forever21 I have received my order of 5 items from the plus section.....oh and this #atkins bar that slipped in there. I don't take kindly to people telling me how to live my life. Oh, and when you were packing the diet bar, you forgot to put my actual invoice!!! 😤." which very much shocked me while reading, so i scrolled down to see if there were any other people who also experienced the same situation and to my very shock, they did, and were also kind enough to share their story.
User @wtfxchloe tweeted:
"YES shame on me for ordering from @Forever21 but why do they have to push diet food on me?? It came with an Atkins bar??"
A second user @jessemarisaelao, shared:
my mom ordered some clothes from @Forever21 's plus size collection and they sent a Atkins diet bar along with the stuff she ordered.
What was really messed up about all these tweets was the fact that these diet bars were only sent to people that had ordered PLUS-SIZE clothing, which falls under the category of fat-shaming, which a brand that is very popular and claims to be inclusive of all sizes and genders, should know better than to let this happen.
The brand however has taken to twitter to defend themselves in a statement to their customers:
However, this brand that screams diversity and that they included this 'freebie' in all online orders should issue a more formal apology personally to the people that were affected, because I have not seen anyone that's the "normal" weight say that they received a free item. Forever 21 should maybe consider next time putting freebies that everyone can enjoy and not feel judged from it.
