The Fordham Guide To Homecoming

There are three essential parts to Homecoming: the Tailgate/Pregame, the game, and the parties.

Now let's not fool ourselves—Fordham is not Michigan. We won't be watching football in a stadium of over 107,000 fans decked out in school colors. But we have our own special way of loving our school and I think the best of the best comes down to Homecoming Weekend and Spring Weekend. Now let's prepare.

1. The Tailgate/Pregame

This is somewhat of a new territory for Fordham HoCo. Typically, the 21 years+ students and graduates get to collect in the tent on Eddies. But McShane has now blessed us with tailgating this year. Let's take advantage.

But don't forget that this is the time to show your school spirit. Skip the face paint but keep the spirit wear. This is the very best time to bring out your favorite t-shirt/sweatshirt/anything you bought at the bookstore.

If you aren't one to wear a sweatshirt or t-shirt, you are lucky enough that our colors are maroon and white—an easy find in any store. Wear the maroon sweater and a Fordham hat if you're going for a subtler vibe.

2. The Game

Fordham is not the best school for football—but I still say it's a must-do on Homecoming Weekend. At the very least, go to half of the game. Everyone there is spirited and cheers for our team, and it's all for the Fordham we love. Maybe we'll have a good game and you can watch the team ring the Victory Bell at the end.

If you aren't a football fan—that is ok! You should still go, and here is a really easy way to understand the sport. And if you want to know more about the players, here is the roster online. Its college: we love a crash course.

3. The Parties

At some point during the day, you should go to a party—which you should call a darty. This is where all of your friends (or future friends if you are a freshman) will be, including those who graduated. They are lucky and can go into the tent during the day, but at some point, they will emerge to see their student friends and their old off-campus housing.

This concludes our guide to Homecoming. I hope by now you are as excited as I am. Remember to take advantage of our right to tailgate, to embrace our school spirit, and to say hi to our friends who have graduated. Homecoming Weekend at Fordham is a hidden gem in a Bronx September.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.

Where do we begin when we start talking about our roommates? You practically spend every moment with them, they become your second family and they deal with you at your best and at your absolute worst. We often forget to thank them for the little things that they do to make college even a tiny bit easier and more fun.
