Life is pretty damn unpredictable. There’s beauty in it, but also a lot of nasty gunk that comes along with it. And the scary thing is, it can hit you like that. You don’t see it coming. You don’t have time to dodge it. You don’t have a rewind button. You don’t know what to do. In the toughest, most heart-wrenching times of your life, there’s really no one to your left or right. So sometimes, you just have to look up.
Being in such a vulnerable state is scary and lonely. Maybe you’re battling with something that only you know about. Perhaps it could be something you’re scared to open up about. It could also be that you know no one will understand. These struggles detach you from everyone else and it feels like you’re the only one suffering. Because this weight isn't compromised, frustration builds up and all you can ask is why. Why is this happening? Even those who aren’t religious turn to God in times of desperate measure to cry out for help or raise their fists in anger of their circumstances.
Honestly, it’s in these moments that you feel like NO ONE has it worse than you do. You look around and see people who look completely fine, and you have to expend the last ounces of your energy mustering up even the slightest grin to keep it all together on the outside. Maybe you’ve been there, maybe you haven’t. But I think we can all agree that sometimes, life sucks. The uncertainty of what’s to come lingers and haunts you. And I believe that this is what puts us in panic mode. Not only do we want the answers to our struggles, but we also want better solutions.
Yes, the twists and turns of life may have their own purposes. But when you become an actual character in a movie, you aren’t able to see how the plot will all tie together in the end. This makes the obstacles that come your way seem a lot bigger and scarier because a happy ending isn’t guaranteed. Well, you know who’s got the script to your life? It’s Christ Jesus, the ultimate director. Roll your eyes all you want, but the One won’t let you down. The Truth promises us a happy ending. And, the way of Christ sets us free. So drop your gunk at the cross, and keep trudging on. It’s not going to be easy. And, you’ll have so many doubts. But don’t let the waves of the storm fill you with terror rather than trust, because you aren’t going to drown. You’re going to hold on even tighter as you stand behind the One who silences storms, the One who holds the map to your destination, and the One who will undoubtedly get you to the other side.
I think we can all agree that the best characters in movies are shaped by all the obstacles they overcome. And maybe we’re not all meant to be a James Bond (sadly). But even he was placed in situations that were unpredictable, uncomfortable, and unavoidable. Sounds familiar, huh? Nevertheless, he never ceased to handle each and every curveball like a boss which is why we love him. The point is, the way you respond to difficulties molds your character more than you think. And it's a heck of a lot easier when you've got a God who's willing to take your load. He’s willing to be your James Bond so that you can sit back, relax, and watch how He moves in your life.
Always remember, hardships are temporary setbacks so that we can bounce back and be able to give back.
