It’s summer time and you know what that means: beaches, pools, sun and studying. Wait, studying? Yes, for some students the newfound season doesn’t mean much change for them as they continue on with school for another semester.
Some people are fortunate enough to enjoy another carefree, classless and maybe even jobless summer. Possibly even their last three-month sunny vacation of adolescence before adulthood moves from the occasional slap in the face to the daily punch in the gut.
If you are part of the group that wasn't able to trade your book bags into all day board shorts and bikinis, then this one is for you. Whether you needed to do this because you had to retake a class or two (or four), or you are just trying get a head of the game – I think we can all agree: IT. SUCKS. So much so that I came up with 18 reasons why.
1. Waking up early…IN THE SUMMER.
2. Having to get out of bed EVERY. DAY.
3. You have zero options as to what time you are going to take your classes.
4. Buying another set of books.
5. Having to navigate a new campus.
6. Driving to classes (instead of walking) and having to deal with finding a parking spot.
7. The moment you walk into your first class...
8. ...and then wondering why you did this to yourself.
9. Class times are doubled, tripled, and even quadrupled.
10. You thought your classroom was warm between the months of September and April? Think again.
11. Meeting new people...
12. ...and having to make new friends.
13. Getting that invite to ______ summer event, but not being able to go because you have class.
14. The moment you realize that you’ll be taking classes for over a year straight.
15. The semester is shorter than normal so you think it would be better? WRONG, exams are like every other week.
16. It’s pretty clear that no one wants to be there, including your professor.
17. Even when the semester ends and it's all over, fall classes start in two weeks.
18. Not even being able to suffer your summer classes at your home school.
Take this as a reminder to the carefree crowd to count your blessing and live up your summer to the fullest possibilities. Don’t just sleep your days away, get out and go have fun. After all, you could be stuck in a classroom. And to the kids that are worrying about exams and homework, word hard and catch up so this never happens to you again.
Good luck, summer schoolers. Now if you’d excuse me, I need to go finish my lab report.
