For The Person Who Is Patiently Waiting

Or at least trying to be patient.

It seems like we're all waiting for something. Waiting for Friday. Waiting for our ride. Waiting for class or work to be over. Some are even waiting for love to find its way to them, while some are waiting for their dreams to come true. Then there are those who are waiting for happiness to sneak its way into their hearts again so they can finally live their lives. I am one of those people.

To the one waiting for their dream to come true:

There are days that you're going to feel like the biggest failure in the world. There will be days when you have no idea what you're doing, or why you're even doing them in the first place. And there will be days when you feel like it'd be easier for you to just give up.

Don't. Don't you dare give up on that dream that makes your eyes light up when you talk about it. There's a reason why you love it, and that's what you were put on this earth to do.

You see, there are going to be people you meet who are going to try and bring you down. There are going to be people who belittle you and spit on your dreams and try to crush your spirit. They're going to laugh in your face and try to put out that fire in your heart. Don't let them break you. When they tell you that you can't, stand up for yourself and tell them that you can, and then prove them wrong.

You can't just wait for your dreams to come true. If you want your dream, you have to chase it. You have to put your heart and soul and energy into reaching that dream.

There is going to be a day when suddenly you have that dream. Or maybe you got a different dream. Honestly, life is funny like that. Sometimes you spend your whole life thinking about one certain thing, and then life throws you a curve ball, and suddenly you're dreaming new dreams. So if life ever takes an unexpected turn, let it. You never know where that turn might take you.

To the one waiting to be happy:

There are things in life that will hurt you, and sometimes you never recover from such things. Depression is such an ugly disease, and the sad part is not the disease itself - it's that not many people treat it like one. When you're body is sick, people are far more likely to excuse it than when your brain is sick. To those of you who are depressed, I have one thing to say:

I understand.

I know how it feels to not want to leave your bed in the morning because everything hurts. I know what it feels like to stay awake all hours of the night, thinking about things you could have done differently. I know how it feels to be having a good day, laughing with your friends, when suddenly the darkness finds you again and squeezes your heart so tight that it hurts to even breathe. I know what it feels like when everything is just too much and you find yourself sitting on the floor at 3 am, sobbing uncontrollably because it seems like no matter how hard you try, you will never be good enough.

But you are good enough, and everything will be okay. Maybe not today. Maybe not next week. But one day you're going to look back on that night when everything was falling apart, and you're going to realize that you made it. You made it through those days that you never thought you'd make it through, and you're stronger because of it.

"For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide, that we might have hope." -Romans 15:4

We are always being tested. In life, we are put through bad things so that we can grow and become stronger people. But hope is the only thing that is stronger than fear. On the days that we are so broken and afraid, hope is the only thing that helps us hold on. The hope for a better tomorrow is what helps us get through the bad days. So the next time you're feeling like you're not going to make it, just think of how good that feeling will feel when you look back on your bad days and can finally breathe a breath of relief that the worst is behind you. All it takes is a lot of patience and perseverance and hope that things will get better.

We're too young to think things won't get better. Don't let the world steal your hope in the same way they stole your happiness. Take back your life and your happiness.

To the one waiting for love:

In a world where the terms "hooking up" and "Friends with Benefits" are flying out of the mouths of the people around you, it's hard to see past Friday night and the cute boy who's eyeing you from across the party. But let me tell you something; one day you're going to meet a man who will make you feel so loved, so invincible, and so brave that you'll forget about the drunk boys looking at you as if you're just another notch in their bed post. That man is going to look at you when you've just woken up, with your hair messy, your eyes sleepy, and your breath stinky, and he's going to tell you that you're beautiful, because to him you are. It doesn't matter if you're dressed for a night out or dressed for a night in, because your imperfections are perfect to him.

But you'll fight -- a lot. And that's okay, because regardless of how angry he is at you or the things you've said, he will tell you that he loves you and he'll mean it. He won't hold it against you, or make you feel guilty about what you've done in your past, because he's your future and that's all that matters.

But how do you continue to wait for him when it feels so hopeless? When you've tried everything you can, but it seems like boys run away from you faster than you can say go?

Well, first off, the ones who run away are just boys. You need a man who is going to stand by you through hell and back. Someone who will hold your hand when you need it, and also not be afraid to admit he needs help, too. Someone who will make sure you feel loved every day, never having to question it.

How do you continue to wait? Know that one day, you're going to meet the one. The one who will love you forever and make you wonder why you ever settled for those boys in the first place. It may seem easy to settle now, but hold out for your Prince Charming. Hold out for your night in shining armor. But most importantly, hold out for your best friend. Hold out for the one you can talk to about anything and everything, someone who you can trust with your heart.

If you are so lucky as to find that one, hold onto them and never let them go.

This life is too short to be anything but happy.

So chase your dreams and follow your heart. At the end of the day, this life is yours, and you have to do what makes you happy.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
