For The Person Who Always Gets Their Hopes Up

No one has the same heart as you, kid.

No one has the same heart as you. That is what you need to learn in order to survive. No one is willing to go to great lengths for you, like you would for them.

No one cares as much as you. You care about the people in your life so much that questions aren’t necessary. When someone cares about you, and I mean truly cares, they would do as much as they can to help you and be there for you. You need to stop thinking you aren’t good enough. You need to stop thinking there’s something wrong with you. You need to stop waiting for that call, text, or snapchat. You shouldn’t have to wait. It should be there when you need it. Any less than that is not worth your time or effort.

All we ever want in life is for someone to care. Someone to want the best for you. God damn, being young and feeling lost can leave you vulnerable. Vulnerable to people you think only want the best for you. You get so infatuated with a person you become blind. In your mind, you hope and think they truly care about you, but their actions will never be what you expected.

It’s not exactly this person’s fault either. It all leads back to the fact that you would drop everything for someone when they need it most. You are the person who cares and cares and just can't help it. You sit and feel empty, but no one is wondering. No one is wondering what is going on in your mind. No one is wondering if you’re having a good day as much as you’re wondering if they are.

When you feel as though your feelings mean nothing, I want to you remember that you are still growing. With growing comes finding that person to care about you the way you always wish someone had. I promise you someone out there loves and cares about you, and if you feel as if no one does, I do. You may not know me personally, but I believe you are a good person who deserves the love everyone wishes to have at least once in their lifetime.

We can sit here and talk about how we'll be fine the rest of our lives alone, but we all know that's not true. We know relationships and dating are the hardest test life can throw our way. If only humans were designed to not be able to feel. But, what thrill of life would there be? Love and hurt are polar opposites, but they are the two emotions that can turn a person's life upside down.

I am here saying this because I am ready to give up. I am ready to give up on the fact that someone does not care about me as much as I care about them, despite the circumstances. I don't want anyone to give up. As much I have felt let down, I won't give up; one day I will find the person who would go above and beyond for me, like I would for them. When that time comes, all of this abandonment and pain will be gone.

No matter what, never shrink your heart to protect yourself from pain. You have a heart big enough to protect anyone you care about; hold onto that. If you feel strongly about someone, show it. Life is too short to not love the people you love. But, if life decides to through a twist, and that person you care about doesn't care about you the same way, let it go. Let it go before it wraps its innocent hands around your neck.

No one has the same heart as you, and you'll break your own heart if you don't learn that soon, kid.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
