For The One Who Worries

A few ways I learned how to conquer the worry in myself.

If you're anything like me, you're a worrier. When I leave the house I check to make sure I've locked the door at least three times, I worry about the things I've said to other people, I worry about worrying too much, I worry about getting everything done on time and sometimes I worry so much that I go days without sleeping because I feel like I just don't have enough accomplished yet. I used to worry about what others think about me as well...but not anymore. Here are a few tips on how to find your way out of the worrisome-wormhole!

Here's the emotional reality folks. Thirty years from now it won't matter if your jeans are designer, if your hair is perfect, or if that person doesn't like you. Everything is temporary! Trends come and go just like people, and that last bit might sound kind of sad but really and truly, the ones who are meant to stick around will. What other people think about you doesn't matter, what matters most of all is that you are happy, healthy, and content with your life.

For the ones who worry, like me, don't forget to take a step back and catch your breath. Look at all the things you've gotten accomplished. Take a good, long look at your accomplishments and set everything else aside for a bit. How many hours have you slept? How much have you gotten done and how much do you really need done right this second? Planners are a great way to help organize yourself so you don't become overwhelmed. If a planner isn't quite your style, make a checklist!

Something else I know that worriers like you and I worry about, is how people perceive us. We are so caught up in how we appear to people that sometimes we say the wrong things. This bit is rather difficult and sometimes takes a lot of work, but try relaxing your shoulders and taking a breath. Find a comfortable topic of discussion and let your thoughts flow. The right people will love the way you think and want to hear more. Be yourself, embrace and love the person that is you.

Sometimes I just get so caught up in all of the worrying that I ask myself "am...I worrying too much?" The answer to that question is usually yes. If you get nothing else from this article, the one thing I hope you hear me out on is this. Its okay to take a break. What helps me is sitting down and drawing or writing for awhile while I listen to music. Find something you can escape into for a while, embrace your creative side. Sometimes that's really all we need is a break from all the worrying and all the stress. Take a breather, make something beautiful and tell yourself you don't have to worry too much about how it looks or sounds because it's a piece of you and that is beautiful in itself.

"Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength." - Corrie ten Boom, Clippings From My Notebook.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
