For The Girl Looking For Her Voice

It takes courage.

He tells you he loves you. He tells you he'll never leave. He tells you you're beautiful. He tells you he'd never hurt you...

* * *

For the girl who is afraid to leave.

For the girl who can't find the courage.

For the girl who doesn't think she can do it, I believe in you.

* * *

I've watched your relationship from the beginning. I've been there for the good and for the bad. Somehow, the bad has out weighted the good. Somewhere, somehow something went wrong. And you're the only one being hurt by it.

You've grown distant from friends. Your grades have slipped. You've declined numerous dinner invitations. You've skipped out on parties. We miss you.

You don't seem yourself. I think its time for you to walk away. He doesn't deserve you. He doesn't respect you. He doesn't love you unconditionally.

The 2 a.m. phone calls, stranded outside his house. It breaks my heart, and I can see he is breaking yours. I continue to tell you, I wish I could see what you see.

* * *

You continue to stay. You continue to stay patient, but when will it be enough? When will you finally put your foot down? When will your voice be heard?

I worry about you, as I watch you fade into his shadow. I can't see you. You haven't shined like you used to. I miss that bright beautiful smile you used to have. Where is that goofy laugh that used to make me laugh right alongside you? You were too innocent, so carefree, so fun loving. He took that away from you.

* * *

What he doesn't tell you is how strong you are. He doesn't tell you how smart you are. He doesn't tell you it is okay to be independent. He doesn't tell you that you are perfect just the way you are.

He doesn't know how truly blessed he is to have you in his life. He takes for granted every second you spend with him, and what I would give to have that time with you.

I dream about the day we get you back, the girl that we used to know. I know she's still inside of you just waiting to come out. One day she will be ready to show her face again to the world. She won't be hiding behind him anymore, she will be ready to stand on her own.

That day is the day I hope and pray for every day. And when that day comes you have an army of people behind you to catch you if you fall. An army who loves and cares for you. The people who pushed away haven't gone anywhere, we are a lot closer than you think.

My hope and my wish for you is that you find the courage within yourself to fight for your voice. I want you to fight for your heart back. He doesn't control you. He doesn't own you. You are so strong. You are so brave. And one day you'll be ready to leave. Restart your life, rebuild the torn friendships, and I'll be right here when you do!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
