For The Dreamer Who Knows They Can

‘you can do anything you want to do, if you put your heart and mind to it.’

For The Dreamer Who Knows They Can

I come from a home where I have been told, "you can do anything you want to do, if you put your heart and mind to it." I can be anything I believe I can be.

I love and appreciate that I have always had the reins in my hands, I can do for me rather than someone else. I can face life the way I need to, and learn from my own mistakes.

Now that I am off to college, I must find out what I want to do with the rest of my life. I must figure out what's going to be best for me in the long haul. I must figure out who I am a long the way. But, most importantly, I have to do all this while maintaining good grades, a part-time job, and my dignity.

The only way I manage to get through is by dreaming and getting excited for whats to come with the future. I know, some dreams are not as easy to reach as others, but don’t be discouraged. But, I know for sure, I am not going to give up on my ultimate dreams.

It is possible to have a dream that may be in another state or even different country. I know that if you can dream it, you can achieve it. The fear of distance is a thing, think about how distance may be closed by a simple face-time, phone call, or text message.

"Don't let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game." -Babe Ruth

Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t accomplish something. Don’t let others negativity be your slide down, use it to build a ladder, to get closer.

Its like when you are going to jump off a cliff. If you're scared you wont jump. You let the fear get to you. Don't let the fear get the best of you. In order to have 'ups' in our life we have to have our 'downs' too. Don't stand on the edge and expect the water to come to you. You must give a little to receive a lot. Put your self out on the edge to be able to do something that is bigger and better than your self. Jump, take the leap of faith, you never know what you may run into.

"Don’t wait until you reach your goal to be proud of yourself, be proud of each step you take toward reaching the goal." - Anonymous

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
