Dear Grandma,

Oh my, where do I begin?

You are always that one person that understands. When my world feels like it's crashing, I pick up the phone and call you. There are only certain things in life that I can thank you for, and I will be forever grateful to have such a strong and kind person in my life.

Thank you for just being you.

Sometimes the things you come up with are hilarious. I just have to laugh because only my grandma would say that. You have shown me that a good personality can take me anywhere I need to go. You always have the best outlook on life, and that has always made me want to look at the brighter side of any situation.

Thank you for always answering my calls.

Sometimes, I call you because I am mad at my mom. Sometimes, I remember I haven't called you in a while, and sometimes, I just need to hear your voice. Our conversations are something I will forever cherish. Your advice and jokes make me forever grateful that I am your granddaughter.

Thank you for the always being there when my mom couldn't be.

Even though sometimes it broke my mom's heart because she had to work, she always knew you would be there. You never missed a performance, game or significant event in my life. I could always look out into the crowd, and I knew you were always there.

Thank you for showing me what true love is.

The way you love Grandpa is a love that I will search for. You have shown me what it is like to be a wife, mother and grandma. I could not ask for a better example.

Thank you for telling me that my tears make me stronger.

You have told me from a very young age that my tears will just make me stronger, and your best advice you ever gave me was, "just cry in the shower. No one will ever see you, and you will feel so much better." Let's just say, there have been countless times in life that I took that advice, and of course, you were right. You have gotten me through some pretty tough days, and you didn't even know it.

Thank you for always being on my side.

We have always been on the same wave length, and I know you are always in my corner. No matter if it is good or bad or if I am right or wrong, you always have my back.

Thank you for being the person that holds everyone together.

We could not be the family we are today without you. You always hold everything together even through our toughest times. We have all been through a lot, and if it was not for you, things may be different. You have taught us the value of family and prayers, and sometimes we underestimate what you do for all of us.

One day way too soon, you are not going to be just a phone call away. And that day is going to be one of the hardest days of my life. But until then, I cannot wait for you to help me pick out a wedding dress just like you helped with picking out my prom dresses. I cannot wait for you to be a great grandma to my kids, and I cannot wait to have more shopping trips and spontaneous trips to get waffles.

I love you, Grandma. There is no one else like you. From the bottom of my heart, I am lucky to have a grandma that is so special. I will be forever grateful to be your granddaughter.

Love,

Your granddaughter

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
