To My Future Daughter

You're probably the best, but I'm biased.

Dear my future ray of sunshine,

I know we’ve never met, and I don’t think we will for a while, but there are a lot of things I’ve been meaning to tell you. I’m writing you this letter because there is a ton to learn, and I want to get a head start before your life gets complicated. I know getting advice from me is the last thing you'll ever want to do, but listen close and I promise the world will be your oyster.

1. The first thing I want you to know is you will never see a day without love. No matter what happens, my love for you is unconditional. When you say I love you and I say I love you more, just know that I mean it.

2. With that being said, your heart will never be full until you find out what it means to love yourself. Take every quality, no matter if you like it or not, and cherish it. There will never be anyone quite like you, and that is a blessing. Never think for a second that your insecurities make you less of a beautiful human. Be quirky, be weird, and never be too ashamed of your body to take that beach trip with your friends, it will be fun.

3. It may not seem this way now, but your brain is your biggest asset, and your best friend. Never feel the need to dumb yourself down to fit in, you’ll attract all the wrong people. Work hard, nourish your mind, and take the time to read about that thing you’ve been wondering about; it'll come in handy someday.

4. What you have in your life is attracted by your thoughts. Your world is created by your mindset and perspective. There will be days where you feel like the world is crumbling around you, and that’s okay. You'll lay in bed at 3am feeling like you’re the heaviest you've ever been just based on the thoughts in your head. This is temporary, and a feeling I know all too well. Go to sleep, tell yourself everything will work out, and I promise you, it will.

Also, try to surround yourself with the best people. A group of inspiring humans who can be your confidants, your rocks, and your source of uncontrollable laughter. Soul mates are not just reserved for love. You'll find soul mates for every aspect of your life, and that’s the way It’s supposed to be.

5. When it comes to boys, don’t ever expect to be an expert, you never will be. Love is complex, stubborn, unassuming, and beautiful all at the same time. Many people will tell you that all boys are assholes, and that nice guys finish last. These statements aren't always true. Leave your heart open for the right person, and only show your naked body to those who have seen your naked heart. Wait for the person who gives you a weird feeling in your stomach when you see them. The one who genuinely wants to know everything about you, and can make your day better just by being there. I know I sound like a broken record and these things sound like a fairytale, but I promise it exists, and you’ll know when you find it.

6. Be intuitive, and always notice the little things. Living life with your head in the clouds is no way to be. Take the time each and everyday to stop and look around. What can you do to be a better person today? Introduce yourself to new people, show compassion, use your manners, and always listen closely. This goes for other people too. Watching the way a person talks to a waiter, interacts with the homeless, and speaks to their family is a huge test of character. Choose wisely.

7. Always remember to take time for yourself. Sometimes it’s hard to stay afloat when you're stuck being everybody’s anchor. Take time to learn about yourself. Write down your thoughts on everything, good or bad. Making lists always helped me. Listen to good music and watch good movies—you decide what those are, but immerse yourself in forms of art that inspire you do follow your dreams. I’m always here for recommendations if you need them.

8. Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s going to be hard, and you might feel sad sometimes, but train yourself to know your worth. Know in your heart that every human was made in their unique way to leave a different mark on this world. Your journey will be unlike anyone else’s, and that’s ok. Love who you love, be who you want to be, and never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

9. This last one is important, but my rant is almost over. Always keep an appreciation for your family, and where you come from. Though I don’t know where it will be yet, your hometown is the veins and anatomy of who you are. No matter how much you think you hate it, home is where the heart is, and where it will always be.

Hold this list close to your heart as you embark on the best and most exhilarating journey of your life. Always remember to be well, know love, and ask for help when you need it.

I love you endlessly,

Me

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
