Sighs of relief can be heard from all over the place this time of year and you can tell that change is in air.
The sounds of seniors rejoicing over the fact that they've succeeded in getting through high school without pulling too many all nighters. College is just around the corner and they couldn't be any happier.
Then you have the junior class, the class sighing in relief of knowing the two things; 1) chemistry is over and 2) they are now seniors.
But the journey has any started for those juniors. Now comes the time things will get more serious for them. Now the worrying of writing essays for English for turn to worrying about writing essay on college applications. Focusing instead on what to study after high school; not the polyatomic ions. A lot is changing in just a these three months of summer, but don't let it change you.
I know how you bad you have waited for this year to come, it seemed like it never would. But, here it is. This summer many of us will be busy with college tours and senior pictures that before we know it it'll be August and the countdown for graduation can truly begin.
However, before graduation comes football season and homecoming. Then will come basketball and Christmas break. In February comes the Sadie Hawkins dance, followed by spring break and the first track practice of the season. A few baseball and softball games, all leading up to that one very important day in May.
What makes that so important? Yes it's a celebration of our accomplishments throughout the years but it's also about the memories leading up to that day. It's about the people who you have met along the way and those you lean on after a long day. It's about the times you and your best friend drove around town until one in the morning because you both needed to rant over whatever drama was controlling your day. It's about those inside jokes in made in English class one year that carried over to science class the next. It's about all the times you went out to dinner with your friends when you knew you should be doing homework instead.
Those are the moments you can't replace or get back. Most of us will never play a sport in college, this is our last year on that field or court we've called home since we were wee little freshman. Our last year walking through those halls we've known for so long and the teachers we've had for several years.
So when you walk through those doors on your last first day of school, take a look around, maybe you'll see something you haven't yet. If there is a kid in your homeroom that you haven't spoke to since you were partners with on your sophomore biology project, don't be afraid to go up and start a conversation with them. Don't leave this year with any regrets. Go to every football, volleyball, basketball, softball or baseball game you can. Go to your homecoming an take part in the hallway decorations and the pep rallies. Go to Sadies. Go to Prom.
I know you want May to come as fast as it can, but you need to enjoy the moments between your last first day and the day you receive that diploma because if you don't then what are you left with to remember?
