How to stay in the know.

Football Season Is For The Boys And Girls

Football season is upon us and football makes Saturdays AND Sundays great again. This means that any time you are in a group setting, the males of your group are going to yap about players and coaches for most of the time. Social events will start surrounding around these games. You better know your sports or you will be sitting silently for a while on your Iphone.

I enjoy football but will admit I didn't know much it before college. In high school, I went to an all-girl's high school and there was no football. Then, I became a South Carolina Gamecock during the school's best years in history.

Now, I want to share with you how to stay in the know with everything the easy way.

Hard Knocks

HBO's Hard Knocks is some great TV. I'd say this is the most enjoyable way to learn a few things about a team you never knew every year. I was not excited to watch the St. Louis, or Los Angeles Rams until I saw a former South Carolina player in the first scene. The Rams have no real big names except for exceptional Todd Gurley from UGA. When you watch Hard Knocks, you learn some new facts about a team that usually does poorly during the NFL season. I didn't have a care in the world for last year's Texans Coach Bill O'Brien until I saw some heartfelt scenes. Start watching Hard Knocks because there's only 5 episodes a year. Also, honorable mention to Amazon's "All or Nothing: A Season with the Arizona Cardinals."

SportsCenter

SportsCenter is the only show that may air more often than the Kardashians -- or at least it gives it a run for it's money. This show is ALWAYS on at the gym. You can learn a lot just by reading the headlines from afar. It is also only 30 minutes. Everything you need to know during a workout. If you aren't reading the headlines, and you are lucky, the not top 10 may air and give you a good laugh.

ESPN APP

The ESPN App has a section for your favorites and news. I throw all the teams I care about and some of their rivals into my favorites so you can stay up to date with everything. Nothing interesting about this mention but very easy to read (using your parent's data) on the run. Although, it is funny when I hear my fiance's friend spewing out Redskins information that came plagiarized straight from the most recent video I just watched on there. Everyone gets their knowledge from the same outlet.

Fantasy Football Draft

Get involved in your office fantasy football draft. It gets you really interested in the games all Sunday. You get to know players you never cared about and you'll remember them for the rest of your life. Get real girly and start your own Fantasy (Book) Club and bring some wine along.

Those are my secrets to getting to know the game of football more than the boys. Maybe they aren't secrets but they are working for me. Now let's go Gamecocks and Hail to the Redskins.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
