Why Football Season Is The Best
TheClevelandFan.com

With summer flying by, fall and the school year quickly approaching once again. But to me it only means one thing, football. High school, college, pro, even peewee...it's almost time. Games are less than two months away and I am so ready for my favorite time of year and I know there's gotta be some of you out there who feel the same way. Here are just a few of the things I am most looking forward to about this season of the best sport.

1. The Game

This may be stating the obvious ,but I am genuinely ecstatic to be able to watch and cheer on my favorite teams playing my favorite sport in just a few short months. To me there is nothing better than watching the game I love with my favorite people and I am so happy knowing it's not far off!

2. Tailgating

Whether it's the youngest or oldest players out on your field during the game, fans of all ages love to get to the game early to participate in games, eat food, drink whatever they please and have a good time as they prepare to watch the battle on the field!

3."Busy" Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

Football seasons bring full weekends. Fridays with high school, Saturday with college and Sundays with NFL. If your lucky enough, you have even more days filled with other teams in other leagues! Nothing beats Friday night under the lights, followed by college game day on Saturday and a lazy Sunday leading up to Sunday night football.

4. Rivalries

You all know what I'm talking about. From the youngest ages, those boys have rivals on and off the field. In high school, the trash talking and occasional pranks on twitter, and so much more. That rivalry is in the entire student bodies blood from the moment they begin. At the college level it get's bigger, better and stronger in every way. As the player's get more talented, the competition and clashing of the rivalries only grows.

5. Student Sections

This one only goes for the high school and college levels, but their is nothing like it. The camaraderie between the students all screaming, chanting, dancing and doing anything they can to encourage their team on the field to do better is part of the package as a student section.

6. Fantasy Football

If you haven't been involved, get into it. It's the best feeling to compete against family, friends or even randoms as if you were actually playing the game yourself even though their is a slim chance you still, or maybe ever, could have. It's so much fun and there's usually nothing, or minimal, money to be lost, unless you so wish!

7. Game Day

There is nothing quite like a football game day. My most recent atmosphere has been college and I hope everyone has got to experience it. The feeling in the stadium, on the campus and in the city as a whole is irreplaceable. This goes for high school as well and NFL to an extent, but no matter where you are or who you are cheering for, cherish game day, it's a great feeling.

8. Gear

It is slightly more okay in season to sport attire from your favorite team or teams every day of the week when they have games coming up. Plus, each year brings new clothes, accessories and who knows what else to be released to stock up your collection and wardrobe. It's not acceptable, to have any less than the newest apparel (duh).

9. Traditions

Whether you have been watching the sport for two or 25 years, there is things that your and your friends or family only do. Maybe you inherit these traditions, maybe you start them new, maybe they've been passed down forever, maybe you do them cause you've seen someone random do them. Whether it's a Super Bowl party, Saturdays spent at the bar, Sundays spent tailgating at a game you'll never enter or Friday afternoon meals, you know you're excited to start those cherished traditions.

10. Winning

I don't need to explain this. There is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING that replaces a win from the team you put your heart and soul into cheering for and supporting all year round and those coveted Ws are just a few short months away, so get excited!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
