Social media is looked at as an asset to many millennials of the 21st century. However, many of us fall into the social media frightful, ultimately landing ourselves into difficult situations!
1. Social media subliminals
We are all familiar with "coming for someone" on the net and "throwing shade." However, these actions often birth controversy that is unnecessary and unneeded. By throwing social subliminal shade, we forget how to effectively communicate and we lend ourselves to our inner petty, which can most of the time lead to drastic consequences, i.e. lost friends, relationship turmoil, and possible hands being caught!
2. Going Live isn't always lit
It's been many an occasion where my friends have gone LIVE after they have told a fib about what they're doing. When using social media, it is essential that the fiber ensures that their fibs match their media! Do not say "I'm in the library studying" and then post a LIVE post chugging Hennessy straight, in J.E.'s room (but that was subliminal, I'll digress). These inconsistencies create trust issues in friendships and can even cost people some of the people they hold the closest, or once did (that was another sub).
3. Posting too much personal
Too many millennials think it's okay to post everything that they do (cough cough). I just ate a pizza. I just showered. I just made $500. I just broke up with my baby mama AGAIN, and now we're going back and forth on facebook (Oooh and the subliminals just keep slipping today). While it's great to share SOME of your personal life with your followers, don't convert yourself into a public form of entertainment, becoming a mere social media commodity rather than a real person. We have enough Cardi B's and MiMi's, and while they're great social entertainment it would be extremely hard to take them seriously in different aspects of life such as the corporate industry.
4. Blocking and unfriending
Many times we find ourselves blocking unwanted pests on our social media platforms. However, many times we block and unblock (I know I'm guilty). We friend and unfriend. Be consistent in your social media blockages and do not subvert to the curious nature of knowing what another person is doing. We all have that one friend that has blocked and unblocked her ex-boyfriend a thousand times, and all that does is turn into an inevitable rebound that enables you from moving on with your life.
5. Mind your business
Social media would be a much better place if people just minded their own business. You don't have to zoom in, extra focus your camera, and put in your contact lens in order to see if the Gillespie sandals are real. who cares? Additionally, your comment is not needed on every post, and if you do not like something keep it a scrolling, mind your business and have a good day.
If we followed these simple rules it would be a harmonious society that saved a lot of people from catching hands they never had to catch if they just would have avoided the foolish falls of social media!
