Fool People Into Thinking You're Stylish

For many women, including myself, being stylish does not come easy. If you’re like me, you envy the trendy people on Pinterest and Tumblr.

I’ve learned that developing your own personal style is difficult, but with these five basic articles of clothing -- which you probably already have in your closet -- you can fool anyone into thinking you are a true fashionista.

1. Jean jacket. Take it back to the 90s, when wearing all denim was “in” -- especially after Britney and Justin’s appearance at the American Music Awards.  A simple jean jacket can transform any outfit into a stylish one and there are plenty of different ways to wear one: you can button it up and pair it with a formal skirt, throw it over a sun dress, or go the classic route and roll up the sleeves and wear it with a simple tee.

2. Plain t-shirt. A plain t-shirt can go from being plain to being the focus of your entire outfit. Buy one over-sized and it wear it off the shoulder, tie one side up and show a little slice of skin, or get a form fitting one and tuck it into shorts or pants.  The possibilities are endless with a plain tee. Walk into any local H&M store and find one for $5, buy a few different colors, try the different styles and you have your outfits for the week!

3. Converse sneakers. Depending on your style, you can have a lot of fun making outfits with these. Whether you have high tops, low tops, white ones, or navy ones -- they go with just about anything. If you’re bold, throw them on with your floral patterned dress. Or, if you like to play it safe like me, try pairing them with shorts and a plain t-shirt, which will give you the perfect opportunity to try out the new styles listed above. If you’re really feeling trendy, maybe even throw on a jean jacket over that tee!

4. Skinny jeans. They say you can never have too many shoes, but you also can never have too many skinny jeans. Once you find ones that flatter your body, buy them in as many colors as possible: dark, light, distressed, white, teal, etc. They can dress your outfit up or down and can easily transition you from day to night wear. Roll them once to draw attention to your flats, or show off your new booties, or leave them down and tuck them into your favorite knee-high boots.  Need to be at work after class? Wear your favorite white skinnies and pack a pair of flats and a blouse to replace the sandals and tank!

5. Sunglasses. Sounds pretty basic, but that is the beauty of it. Throwing on a pair of sunglasses can even make your post-workout outfit look fabulous. They don't have to be expensive designer brands, my go-to favorite pair was only $10! You can rock a pair of sunglasses with any outfit and, as silly as it sounds, they can be the accessory that completes your look.

Any of these suggestions has the ability to transform a boring outfit into one that will have everyone thinking you have a great fashion sense. They are basic, cheap and, most importantly, can be worn by anyone. Don't be afraid to try these style tips. Experiment with different accessories, make it your own and, trust me, you will have everyone fooled into thinking you are just as trendy as the people on Pinterest.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
