The quaint little town of Florence, Alabama, quickly became my home when I moved to attend the University of North Alabama two years ago. It's got southern charm and a certain artsy, tasteful quality that translates to every aspect of the town, especially the food. Needless to say, if you're planning a visit to Flo-town, or if you're just passing through, we've got the hookup when it comes to good eats and sweet treats. Check out a few of the hot spots in town!
1. Ricatoni's Italian Grill
With unlimited ravioli on Thursday and the best tiramisu every day, this is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I've never had anything less than delicious here.
2. City Hardware
City Hardware is actually under the same management as Ricatoni's, so you know the food is equally as yummy. They're even side by side. Honestly, I can't rave enough about their Hardware Burger. It's a classic, and I recommend it every time.
3. Stagg's Grocery
If you're craving some good, old-fashioned hole-in-the-wall food, you go to Stagg's. Their burgers are great, and their breakfast tastes like it's straight out of your grandma's frying pan. Oh, and they serve chocolate gravy on Friday mornings. You're welcome.
4. Trowbridge's
This cute little ice cream and sandwich shop has been around forever! You just can't beat a peanut butter and banana sandwich with a double scoop of ice cream or a milkshake.
5. Rivertown Coffee Co.
I honestly feel like I'm here all the time. Any drink you order here is always perfect, and their food is delicious. This place will rock your socks, and it's a great place to catch up with friends or study for exams.
6. Odette
Odette is probably the one place downtown I haven't eaten, but I've heard nothing but great things about it. I'm actually drooling as I read their menu.
7. Miami Ice
When it's hot out, there's no other place to go. I don't know how to describe the deliciousness to you other than this: it's basically a snow cone-milkshake hybrid. It's awesome. I highly recommend the Michael Jackson or the Channing Tatum (all their flavors are named after prominent figures).
8. Chicago Cafe
This joint is the absolute best place to get a hot dog or a pizza. Are you ready for the best part? They're open into the wee hours of the morning, and I typically find myself here around 1 a.m. Oh, and they're attached to Wildwood Tavern Next door, so you can get a drink and a dog if you fancy.
9. 360 Grille
If you want fine dining, this is the place to go. It's literally a tower that rotates 360 degrees every four hours. It's so cool, and the sunsets overlooking the Tennessee River are phenomenal from up there.
10. Rice Box
This is probably every college kid's favorite Asian restaurant. You get way more food than you can eat on that college budget. Talk about leftovers for days!
11. Woodpecker Cafe
If you're looking for brunch, look no further! Woodpecker has the finest assortment of fresh food and coffee. I'm actually craving some french toast and fresh fruit right now.
12. Pulp and Rind Juicery
Pulp and Rind Juicery has all the healthy juices and smoothies you crave! They even use local ingredients!
13. Turbo Coffee
Turbo Coffee is owned and operated by the same people who run the Greasy Hands Barbershop. So, if you're in need of buzz while you get your specialty espresso drink, this is the place to be.
14. The Pie Factory
If you're craving handmade gourmet pizza, look no further! I highly recommend "The Sink." It literally has everything but the kitchen sink, and it's piled high with toppings.
15. YUMM Thai: Sushi and Beyond
This is the go-to place for that go-to sushi experience. It's a Philly roll lover's dream!
Now, I'm starving. I'll go get my bib and meet you downtown!
