My Year In Review
Lila Smith

On New Years Eve, last year, I was flying back on a plane from Philly after having the most wonderful time of my life in New York City, Philadelphia, and in New Jersey. When I look back to then, I remember just wandering around and adventuring places I have never emerged myself in. I believe that was the beginning of me finding my wandering spirit. During the year of 2016, I have been to several marvelous places that I never thought I would go to. I have travelled the entire state of Florida going from Miami to Naples to Tampa to Orlando to Gainesville to Cedar Key to Atlanta, Georgia, with my now fiancé doing activities and seeing places we have never been to before. We were in a wonderful relationship having the time of our lives and to be honest, I never imagined that we would be here on this new journey together. In exactly one year, I have become engaged to my best friend and now we’re planning our future together.

I enjoy every moment I spend with him, I know it’s a little cliche. But, the moments that we go on wild adventures like that together on our own mean the world to me. In Miami, we went to Wynwood and saw the graffiti art on the walls, we went to a great hibachi restaurant called Samurai, waited in line for 2 hours for homemade cinnamon rolls at a place called Knaus Berry Farm, saw the sunrise there one morning, and ended up finding a potential wedding venue off the beach. In Naples the same day that we saw the sunrise in Miami, we went to watch the sunset there. We went to a beach called Bonita beach and got to hold live conch shells and starfish with our own hands. In Tampa, we went brunch hopping and coffeeshop hopping around different restaurants and coffeeshops trying to find the best brunch place and coffee there is. Brunch places in Tampa so far that I absolutely love are Keke’s Breakfast Cafe, First Watch, and Saigon Deli. The best coffeeshops that we have found so far within Tampa are the Oxford Exchange and Felicitous. In Orlando we went restaurant hopping from a great dessert place in Winter Park called Krungthep, we went to this amazing unlimited Korean BBQ place called Izziban, and we went to the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium where everything was made with chocolate. We also, went to Orlando very often because we have annual passes to Universal and going to both Harry Potter worlds and using my brand new wand was one of the best things I have done in my life. In Gainesville we went freshwater tubing and snorkeling. We also, went brunch and coffeeshop hopping there as well and found The Flying Biscuit, Peach Valley Company, and CYM Coffe Co. the best there so far. Then an hour away from Gainesville we found a place called Cedar Key. It’s a small island town in the Gulf with a one street for downtown and its a place where if high tide comes you may potentially be trapped on the island. At Cedar Key we walked the beach, went to a small coffee shop called Daily Grind and had some coffee and a delicious piece of Key Lime Pie, and bought 50 oysters on our way home for $15. And our biggest trip this year was road tripping to Atlanta. In Atlanta we went toured the town, went to the World of Cocacola, and on our way back we stopped by and saw a natural waterfall and actually climbed up it (even though it was against the rules).

This past year has been full of adventure and I have definitely done more things than what I have mentioned above. But, that has been the majority of my year. And now that 2016 has come to a close and I am recently engaged to my fiancé, I cannot wait for our future adventures this coming year.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
